Is someone working out if it's cheaper to send their luggage by courier instead of paying the baggage charge for a certain airline? :p

We get that all the time at fedex.

Their is a company that specialize in that.

    Google search 'First Luggage'.

To send 5kg from Dublin to milan is 148.89 Euro.

Thats express via fedex. So it will be next day.

We also do economy which is much cheaper, your looking at 3 - 4 days.

Dont know if these people operate back home in Ireland - but try them for a quote. You will probably get about 6 quotes - and you need to have an idea of the size of box before you start the quote process.
Very reasonable good service from UK to Italy - I've used them many times - and I like the paying on the Internet and the pickup at my door! I've always used the one with the cheapest quote - I wont tell you what the Missus calls me!!

You're mixing your dimensions there, Sucking the air out will reduce the mass, but will do very little for the weight at normal altitudes....
