Yes folks, it's a game of hunt the bargain, and I need all your mad internet skillz to help me out!

It's time to go carbon, so in the next couple of weeks I shall be ordering a new frame. Budget is no more than 700euro (ex delivery), and I only need frame and fork, in stock and size 56-58. My eye is on the Planet X at the moment, but what other options are there?

Some nice stuff over at pro bike kit.

    Over budget

Not sure what the story is with sizing on that thing cos of the seatpost.

    I like this

    Obligatory Cervelo

If I were you, I train on the focus and the get the new bike later, so you can spend more.

Unfortunately, the budget is inflexible, so the Dolan's not good -even at 68cm!

The PBK Team is tasty alright, as is the Cervelo -but it needs to be carbon -or maybe Ti... :)

Are you sure the budget is inflexible, What about a Ridley Noah (retails here at 3699) saves money on a seat post

Brand-X 3K Carbon Road Frame - Inc Carbon Fork From €392.40
Dedacciai Nero Corsa Frame Inc Deda Carbon Fork From €653.99

The Ribble Sportive would have been my choice, except they're out of stock in your size.

Can't google around at the minute, but can you get the Ridley Orion for ~€700? Excellent frameset.

If not, maybe the one down from that (Boreas?)

Nobody's to talk Tiny out of buying a pink bike.

The Orion 's a good frame but even online starts at 900, the Boreas is aluminum

Ah I see. Why carbon if you're only spending €700? What defintely go for a aluminium frame at that price range.

But there are so many good carbon frames at that price, why go for alu?

I would honestly consider an alu Cervelo over a cheap crabon at about the same price.

These are fairly solid (if unspectacular as well)

It's the benchmark, and what I'm leaning toward at the moment -comes out at about £650 by the time you add headset and suchlike, and don't worry folks, if I get the PlanetX, it may well be the pink one!

WHAT! Where? Who was on it -this throws the whole endeavor into jeopardy... I want to be the only one on a Pink Planet X -if some girly tart is riding one, it ruins the whole point!

The Raleigh gets a good review from BikeRadar, don't see how you can knock a Giant TCR as a bad frame either.

    I'd agree with this.

Didn't say there weren't good carbon frames at this price range, was just wondering you were was set on carbon as there isn't as much choice at this price range.

@ Tiny: I presume that because you are looking for the frame you want to build it up yourself.

If so, why not save yourself the hassle, strip down your Mercian and build it up with some nice campag accessories that yor have in your 700yoyo budget.
Wont be carbon, but would look great.

    23 reasons really:

    1. I love the Mercian as a fixie, though may turn it into a tourer in the future
    2. I want a good race bike for in case I decide to compete, and cos everyone has to have a carbon road bike to be properly euro
    3. Groupset is a separate budget, and pretty much decided upon. I'm not going for a full build as I have wheels and finishing kit already (bars, stem, saddle etc), so don't want to pay extra for bits I don't need/are lower quality than I already have

OK. Then try the Dolans (I think Wheelworx, Worldwide Cycles and Sipoa Rothar in Limerick used to stock them).
Have a Hercules and it is lovely.
You may get a deal on them, in that I think that the stockists that had them are not restocking them (AFAIK, open to correction). (Maybe that says something about them!!!)

On that basis, if they have any left, more than likely to be eagre to shift them.

Anyway, if we meet on a spin shortly you can have a go of mine (but it maybe too small for you(54cm).
    Anyway, worth a thought.

everyone has to have a carbon road bike to be properly euro

    (checks rules)

Sorry chapeau, but there is no crabon-only frame rule, and the only way you'll pass the "endorsed manufacturer" rule on your budget is with the metal Cervelo.

Go for a Cervelo man, you won't be sorry. I know they ain't pink, but you won't care once you are riding the thing. Screw the budget... so you don't get to eat or drink for a few months, big deal, you'll be so busy riding the bike that you won't care. And when you ain't riding it, you'll be at home looking at it and thinking about riding it. OK, so maybe that's an insight to how I think, but what I'm trying to say is that they are awesome!
