I thought he showed great nerve and his kicks at goal were assured as was his drop kick. Out of hand he kicked solidly and kept his backs moving with good flat passing. 7/10 Just wanted to put this out there because he gets slated for an off day.
Also highest points scorer in the 6 nations history - congrats.

Yeah he'd a good game except for one howler of a missed tackle when the Scots nearly scored a try.

I agree completely, actually the whole reason for this thread is to give a bit of balance to the ridiculous "guess who isn't rated in the SH" or " O Gara should be replaced by Ian Humphreys" threads where the guy is subjected to massive abuse for a dip in form, who really cares whether the SH rates him. They only ever rated O Driscoll from the Irish team, even O Connell is slated down there.

This thread will once again develop into a tit for that between those who rate ROG and those who don't. Why let actual on field events cloud those pre-conceived notions.
For what its worth, he did play reasonably well against Scotland. Doesn't necessarily mean he's returning to his best form. He played reasonably poorly against England. Doesn't necessarily mean he's the worst player ever to lace a pair of boots.
As things stand he's what I would call a very good player. He doesn't fit into the 'great' category and never will. What he does, he does well more often than not.
You can only really judge a player by comparing him to players of the same era. In that regard, he's easily the best out half Ireland have produced since rugby turned professional, but he doesn't really compare to the best out halves that some other countries have produced in the same period.

Well I thought as a game he was very impressive, bar the tackle. But that's the problem. ^^

I'd give him a solid 7.5/10, and ask the mods to lock this fast, mainly so we don't see another RoG thread. :pac:

He did alright, I'd give him 6/10. Better than the absolute awfulness of the previous 2 games.

Should have eclipsed Wilkonsons record a few years ago. I second this thread being closed.
