Hi, can someone help me out. I went to view a 00 VW Bora tdi this evening. It has 145000 on clock. Regularly serviced, Four new tires, NCT till this time next year, no tax. Engine seems clean and timing belt done at 130000. Body is clean also.
Is there anything I should know about this model, problems etc. Its the 90bhp version. He wanted 3000 for it but I reckon 2700 would buy it?
I drove it and it felt tight, clutch seemed ok, no problems selecting gears.
Have any of ye owned one? What do ye think?
I had intended on getting a jap of same age, corolla or avensis maybe but after driving it I quite liked it.

Sounds a bit expensive for a 145k t-diddly-i ... As long as you have a full service history and everything seems ok, you should be alright, but saying that, it's too expensive. Bora's don't generally make much money, I wouldn't but 3k into a 00 with 145k

2700 ain't a Kings ramson, but I'd prefer to buy Jap. Check front suspension links & ball joints. Ask if there is any proof of cambelt change with tensioner & water pump.

9 year old Bora + 145k miles does not equal anywhere near €3k. Too expensive imo.

You could buy a same year Passat for similar money:

Passats dont hold their value as much the Bora, you can nearly always buy a cheaper Vertra/Mondeo than a same year Astra/Focus-after a certain age milage.

I do not think €2700 is much over the odds for a good straight car that has been well maintaned, miles are a tad high but if it still drives tight then thats means its been well looked after and its genuine.

The no tax might be a put off, only because it'll be €600 odd for the year, and if you seen a similar car with tax then thats a little less money towards the car.
And its the 90 bhp, i doubt the 110 bhp would be anymore than €50 a year to insure, if any. Tax is the same. Yet the 110 has a bit more poke and even easier on diesel, or so im lead to believe.

There are no shortage of Bora around, so you can be as choosey as you like.

If this isn't bought for 3250/3500, I'll eat my hat. There you are, comfortline spec, lower miles and up two years.

Edit: And for 5.5k-ish you could have a 05 with full leather. Downside is that it's an auto. Vrt is around 2k.

Cheers for all the replies lads. I appreciate it. Im not gonna rush into it. Im put off by the milage as I do a lot of milage myself and it wouldnt be long before it was closer to 200k.
Ive been looking about today and there really is a serious amount of motors out there at the moment. Im going to hold on it and try and get something with some tax on it and lower mileage, Im still steering towards the jap route.
    Thanks again,
    Bandit
