Sorry if this is not the correct place to post. I am trying to organise a flying lesson for my brother as a gift. Most website such as topgift etc advertise at approx €200 for a one hour lesson? Does anybody know where i can get cheaper? Im from the south east so would be willing to travel within reason.

Hi miss.lost, you've come to the perfect place.

The ideal place is Waterford Aero Club in the south east. Based at Waterford Aero Club.

They do two vouchers, a 30 minute one for €95 and a 60 minute for €175 I believe.

You can buy vouchers online @ www.waterfordaeroclub.com or in the model centre in Waterford City.

They've got a brand new fleet of training aircraft and operate 7 days a week. They are without a doubt the cheapest place for PPL training in the country. I'm currently hour building using their Tecnams. It is working out cheaper for me flying here than in the states.

Granted a Tecnam is probably more expensive than a -172, but it's possible to get a PPL in the US fairly cheaply. I paid about $6K to get mine last June in Kentucky.

    NTM

Thanks flyer one that would be ideal, if i pop down to the place can i get a voucher there and then as i will be kind of short on time...? Oh and how much of a 1 hour lesson is actual flying time?

Get the hour one if you can...30 mins is a tiny amount of time, probably only 10-15 mins in the air.

I would expect to get 50 mins flying time for that price.

Fraid not! I am not in your part of the country but I do know that 175 euro - 200 euro "should" get you no less then 50 mins in a plane. Then again there may be other charges I'm not taking into consideration but Flyer1's suggestion seems a good one

Have only gotten a chance to reply to this today.

With the 30 minute voucher you should get 30 minutes in the air.

Same goes for the 60minute voucher. The club is also a non profit organisation.

If you want to drop me a PM with any more questions feel free miss.lost. I'm flying almost every day at the airport so i'm pretty up to date with whats going on there.
