I posted on thread a while ago (as did others) about X-Music being closed for no apparent reason with no announcement on their site.

Well, today I went out again, having seen the St. Patrick's Day special announcement on the site. It said very clearly: Open St. Patrick's Day 12-5. I got there at 4:20pm. Closed. Saw about three cars pull up and turn around also. What's going on?? That waste of a journey cost me €8.20.

I've ventured out there twice now, and both times it was closed. I don't think I'm ever going to get to see the inside of it.

Yea, website says 12-5 alright. That's pretty bad business practice if they closed up early.

'Worried' would be the wrong word. Spent ages getting there, wasted money, shoved my way into a Luas full of rowdy ****s in green hats on what turned out to be a hotter than average day. Just pissed off that I wasted my day. I've gone into music shops before where nothing was going on, but they were still open when they were supposed to be.

Well, you know I guess sh*t happens. It's just happened to me twice in a row with them. Maybe it's a sign.. that I shouldn't be looking to spend money I don't have! :pac:

Nah, that's not right, that's really really poor on their part. I wouldn't just shut up and get on with it, give them a ring or something? That's bang out of order.

that all sounds very irish to me.very bad form.we just dont get it over here do we.any time i am away i see how things are supposed to be,i was in the states recently and although they can be a little over the top its very refreshing to go into a shop and get good service and where nothing is a problem.over here if you ask for something thats not on the shelf, instead of them checking to see if they have one in the back of the shop they feel its easier to say they are out of them.save themselves the journey.

I'd agree, that's bad form. Given the kind of shop xmusic is trying to be, it should run to the times stated on it's website. It's not like it's some country grocers in a 1 horse town when no one turns up for 2 hours they say "feck this, let's go home!", it's trying to compete with the big boys, the likes of Thomann, GAK, Dolphin Music etc etc.
Yes i know it's Paddy's day and all that, but still, you've clearly stated your intended opening times, so stick to 'm.

That's terribly disappointing. I was thinking about taking a trip out there soon but sometimes I just think I really can't be bothered. This incident reinforces that feeling.

In other news, I really dread waking up tomorrow.

They have a forum on their own website (probably not working though). You should let them know through their own forum that you are not happy with them.

FWIW It was open at about 2:30 yesterday, but there were very few people there.

Really........I have found them to be the opposite particularly when purchasing expensive items like guitars and amps - I recently saved over €300 on a guitar purchase and even more on some home studio gear. I found their customer service excellent and free delivery. Nothing ****e about that in my humble opinion - but then I am old enough to remember the way it was before the internet shook things up and ended the cosy rip-off in the musical instrument trade here.
It is interesting to note that some Irish vendors still persist in old habits like charging extra for guitar cases that come free with the instrument from the manufacturers.
Anyhow, my advice would be to research carefully before splashing out your hard-earned and compare prices before purchasing. 'nuff said!;)

    Push off Granda!

i joke. I remember buying my first bass. Some c#nt in Music Maker made me feel like a right piece of sh#t for daring to buy something from them. Then gave me a fecked up bass which was fretless. w#nker.

(It was boxed up so i didn't notice till i got home.) And I kept it

    I don't know either.

    +1

I made an order late last night and it shipped this afternoon. I have never had problems with Thomann, in 6 years. In about 20 orders, I've made one discretionary return, which went pretty smoothly.

I've yet to head out to X-Music, but with this kind of amateur ****e going on, I'm really not bothered.

Ay, I've had nothing but good experiences with Thomann.

X-music being closed when they had advertised as being open is a complete joke. If it was a small operation with 1 or 2 guys working there I would say fair enough, but for a bigger place that kind of lark is a bit much.

Isnt there a Thomann thread on the go somewhere else? :)

OP - that's bad form on the part of X-music and I'd be interested to see what their man on boards has to say on it.

Thomann is still the big one in Europe, but maybe not for us. Their problem, is that the £££ is down in value. UK sites can sell at their usual prices, but we are saving a packet compared to Thomann. When dust settles in a few years, Thomann will be up there again.

X-Music were set up to match Thomann prices, which is not the cheapest anymore for us.

But don't buy from the UK to save a fortune, buy Irish to be patriotic and help the Irish economy......yeh......???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

Yeah sure. I'll just take the money out of my Rabobank account and spend it all in Ireland.

In anticipate that neither of my next two purchases will be from X Music (or Thomann incidentally)... But I'm waiting for them to email me back and hopefully they will surprise me.

I have a guitar on hold in XMusic for collection on Saturday. Hope they'll be open now...

I wonder what the story would be with Thomann, if you asked them to pricematch Gak or dv247 etc. for prices, taking into account the Sterling to Euro rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

As far as I know, Thomann strictly will not match other store's prices.

No doubt he'll just shrug it off like he did after Christmas, when people had visited the store expecting them to be open, and they never bothered to put their opening times on their web site.

    Is n't that right Smiler ? :p

Geez Guys, I can't believe what I'm readin' I grew up in Dublin, and as a musician the way I was treated buying gear was just unreal! (BAD)

I spent 2 hours in X Music last week buying a guitar ( R Taylor - Amazing !). It was the BEST experience I have EVER HAD in a Music store and I've been in a few UK,Germany and the USA.

The guys out there were awesome , they know their stuff and I got a great deal, **** loads of advice on computer stuff for Free and a coffee for Free and a car park space for Free- You don't realize what a service you have , get out there and then judge. Don't know why they closed early that Day ---St Pat's Day ???? Irish Musicians ??? the PUB would be a good guess !

The Hawk really should be sacked from X Music for being such an idiot.
