All Creatures Great & Small - How Did They Do It?

I'm a big fan of the tv series "All Creatures Great And Small". Remember it fondly from when I was a kid.

It's currently being repeated on a number of channels and I notice that the actors actually do a lot of actual vetinary work - delivering calves, stitching etc.

Just wondering how they managed it? I'm sure there was a vet in attaendance as well and I'm sure any of the caesarian deliveries were staged (although they looked real).

For instance, did a local farmer tell the crew when a cow was going to calf? Did a horse owner tell the crew when his mare had cut herself?

    Just wondering.:)
