Fred Couples... for the apparent ease with which he swings the club.

I've started swinging the club really easy in my last 2 rounds because my tempo was getting crazy quick and my iron play is so much more accurate as a result. Gone down a club and a half in distance with the benefit that I can hit a 6 iron closer now that I could have hit a wedge a few weeks back. I aim to feel like almost feel like I'm holding back on gravity on my downswing I'm keeping it that slow.

Freddie's got the type of tempo I'm lookin for.

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, the name 'Fred Couples' came to mind. What a great rhythm and so effortless.

A friend of mine was at a golf clinic with Fred some years back, and Fred was asked how he set up to hit a fade. He answered that if you asked Nick Faldo, he would tell you to move your feet so you were aiming left of the target, to start your swing more steeply, to hit from the inside out and to keep your clubhead low through the point of impact with tight wrists. "Me," said Fred, "I just think it."

Wouldn't it be beautiful to play golf that way!

Couples is one of my favorites too, i am always afraid he's going to let the club slip out of his hands some day he holds the club that loose lol.

Bob Rotella tells a good story about Couples in one of his books. He never "treated" Fred - for want of a better word - but he had a chat with him one day at a Competition or some place.

Fred stopped him and said "Hey Doc, I hear you've been workin with some of the fellas on the mental side of things, how's that work?"

Rotella asked him what he thinks about when he pulls a club out of the bag to play a shot. Couples said "I think about the best shot I ever hit with that club, then I go ahead and step into it..." (paraphrasing here)

Rotella replied: "Fred, I think you're gonna do fine!"

    Good tip, really!

Perhaps a more interesting poll would be who do you most play like. Sure none of us drive it a Mile like tiger but are you a garcia, good long game cant put for sh1t or are you a mickelson, go for everything. Or are you a harrington, grind it out when it matters?

    Regards
    Ian
