My nomination is MASK "Laser Command".

    http://www.albertpenello.com/mask/lasercommand.html

First off, don't get me wrong, I loved the MASK toys and they were a great line but this particular effort left much to be desired.

The basic design concept behind this toy was akin to that of a typical household TV remote control. The 'good' vehicle acted like a remote control and sent infrared signals to the bad vehicle. When the baddie recieved the signal the it would 'explode' step-by-step depending on how many times you pressed 'fire' button.

Now let me give a bit of background. The basic concept behind the MASK line is that you had a really nifty truck or car or whatever but with the added bonus that the vehicle could turn into something really cool (like a boat or a tank).

However with this particular toy the designers seemed to abandond this core principle in favour of "the remote control" concept (which admittedly was still a novelty back in 1989).

So what I got for Xmas morning 1989 was two MASK cars (one called 'Ratfang' and the other called 'Hornet'). In terms of transformation Ratfang (a blue truck) did nothing except reveal a couple of wing/gun things from under the wheel-arches and Hornet transformed from a wooden crate into a sort of glider.

So just to repeat that, we have one vehicle that turns from a car into *NOTHING* and another vehicle that turns from a sort of flying chair into a crate! A BOX! To paraphrase Tom Hanks in the movie BIG, "What's fun about a box?"

To compound my misery, on Xmas day 1989 it turned out these two items needed batteries to operate and Santa Claus had carelessly forgotten to include them. So, until the shops reopened, I spent a couple of days playing with these things unable to enjoy the primary (and tbh ONLY) feature that they held! All in all not my most memerable Xmas.

Interestingly I note that the MASK line died off soon after this toy was released and I can't help suspect that Laser Command had something significant to do with it. I certainly never had another MASK toy after this one.

So anyway, what toy did you get as a kid that you remember being very disappointed with?

A 'lightsaber' that was basically a torch with a transparent plastic tube attached to it, and bent whenever you hit another person or lightsaber.
