His interview after breaking the Irish record is pretty cool: website.
He mentioned coming back for a 10k in Ireland. Was it the Great run?

Yes. Should be good race as Mary Cullen will also run.

It must be the Great Ireland run, as he mentions Tergat also, and he's confirmed for that race.

EDIT: Story here on Great Run website

Thanks for that. I was only saying yesterday to a friend of mine how useless the press coverage for this was. A snippet in both the times and indo alongside news of the 5k in the city centre. I was wondering how hard it'd have been for a journalist to pick up the phone and get a few quotes from him - maybe even a photo of him crossing the line. On the scale of things breaking this record is bigger than the bronzes won last week in the european indoors. Hopefully there'll be a piece on it in this weekend's times.

The tattoo video is gas. The music really sets the tone.

Looking forward to seeing him run in the park now. Anybody know of Tergat's recent form ? Hopefully Fagan will take him :)

Just to state the completely obvious he looked like he was in total agony in that video after breaking the Irish record - it's amazing to see a guy totally commit like that. From what little I know of him this young guy is phenomenal, do you all think he's the real deal?

He seems like an interesting character with all the tattoos and his quirky personality, if he can perform like this it's gonna be fun watching this guy for the next few years.

Do you guys who know a bit more about him think he is the real deal? What event is he going to do in the World Championships this year and can he do a top 10 fininsh in the 10K final or something like that?

He'll be doing the 10,000 apparently. First off he'll need to get the B standard which stands at 28:12. His PB is 28:18 so based on his improvements he should be in with a shout. The irony is that he would piss the marathon standard as that is softer. I'd imagine he will be sent if he got the B as while these days we do have more athletes getting A's, they do send B athletes. Olympics saw 13 A standard and 3 B standard athletes I think.

His next target would probably be to go into the 27's and get close to the A standard of 27:47. This would get him close to the Irish record of Alistair Cragg of 27:39.

As regards top 10 etc, it will depend on the race and conditions. The Olympics saw 27:27 coming 10th while the Worlds in '07 saw 28:30 get 10th. There is no way of knowing how he will fare on the track until he opens up in a few months (I presume). That Heusden race is usually a fast 10,000 so he may target that but I'm only guessing.

Tingle is there no Half/marathon at the world champs?

Why wouldnt he compete in one of those events?

There is a full marathon, no half at the majors although there is a half on its own but it wouldn't have the same appeal as the majors. Its on in Birmingham in October so he may run that.

Not sure why he is running 10,000 and not marathon in Berlin (has that been confirmed?). Maybe a marathon in sweaty Berlin in August would be too much. He probably is focusing on December in Santry when he will have the chance to win some hardware in front of a home crowd at the Euro Cross. Only guessing, someone else might know.

Seems like a nice guy - very positive attitude. Better off being based out of the country

In one of the videos he mentioned that Berlin was on the cards. He also said that he was going to stay off the track, because of his lack of previous success. Dunno how realistic that is though.
