Don't know specifics around Limerick but winter they often head for the coast/estuaries. Should be heading back up the rivers anytime now I guess. They are very shy and sensitive to movement so best bet is finding where they like and wait for them to come to you...setting up a perch for them may help. Also keep an ear out for their calls...probably available on www.rspb.org ...and keep still if you suspect one is heading your way. Start strolling the local rivers and ask the local fishermen. Keep an eye out for other wildlife too - dipper, grey wagtail, otter... good luck!

There's some up the Fergus somewhere.

    Ask this crowd:

Just type kingfisher into their search and you'll get locations.

Be careful not disturb them too much.

spotted at least three while out on the river maigue last week, another good spot is in nenagh, take the borrisokane road off the bypass and park at the meat factory, there is a walk down along the river that offers some good spots for photographing kingfishers. you'll need to find a perch that they use and stake it out. i've heard of people planting a perch in the river for them to use and lying in wait...good luck

Hi Kaos, I have seen one often enough on a small river on the Laois/Offally border. Its a bit far from you i guess but if you do need directions PM me. I cant promise he'l be there though whne you arrive so it could be a pointless journey. They are a fantastic looking bird though.
