Ray Treacy being head coach for the last couple of decades.
many irish Olympians have competed for them...
Mark Carroll,John Treacy,Martin Fagan,Sinead Delhunty,Marie Mcmahon ect.
mary Cullen and Roisin McGettigan the latest batch of women.
While there have been many runner to pass through Providence eg Pat Guidera,Paul Reilly,Dermot Galvin(20th ncaa x country),Larry Morrissey...
keith Kelly is the man of the moment having just won the natioanl cross country for the first time,he is a former ncaa champ and he is quoted as saying the following;
Irish runners want to come to Providence because they know that they will have help in making the transition because Ray knows what it is like, as do the other runners on the team. NCAA competition provides young Irish runners with an opportunity to come and race some of the best athletes in the world who are their own age. If they stay at home they are immediately racing Senior men who dominate them. There is also a lack of races at home so the college system here makes up for that.
A good education and a tradition that includes John Treacy, Steve Binns, Geoff Smith, Andy Keith and Mark Caroll makes Providence the place to be for young Irish runners.

I'd agree with all has been said above. Tracey has a proven track record and with athletes of the calibre of David McCarthy his credentials will increase or at the very least be maintained.

On McCarthy I've seen a couple of his races and interviews on Flotrak and he is great to watch. So positive and seems to be very level headed considering his talent.
