I live in Newbridge, and because I have 2 small kids I can only go out running in the evenings. I've just come back from a run and some mindless morons deliberately tried to run me down in their car.

For people that know Newbridge it was on the old Dublin road by the college just past the painted roundabout. I was running on the opposite side to the college when a car coming on the other side of the road crossed over to my side of the road, started to speed up, and mounted the footpath heading towards me. They braked and moved closer to the road just before they got to me, and then sped off again with their lights off so I couldn't get their reg.

I don't know why but I can't help feeling that if I was just a random pedestrian they wouldn't have done anything, more fun to pick on a runner kind of thing.

I don't want to tell my wife because she'd never let me out again, but I have to vent my frustration so I figured I'd do it here.

[EDIT] Just thought, this is probably completely the wrong forum for this. Mods feel free do move or delete it's just a rant really nothing to do with running at all.

It's Rag Week in many colleges soon. I expect many posts in this forum about gettting cans and eggs thrown at them.

Doesn't compare to the seriousness of your situation though.

Even without a reg, make a report. At least they will be aware, I doubt you were the first it happened to in that area

Yeah I'd report it too. Stupid comments are one thing but thats just downright dangerous and could have gone very, very wrong. There could be CCTV around or a good traffic cam on traffic lights or something that will catch them.

It's always horrible to hear things like that happening, it could so easily happen to any of us. We don't go down the local park and stand on the sidelines of a football pitch shouting obsenities so why should we have to put up with it? (this is a sweeping generalisation as a lot of comments come from young lads who mostly likely play GAA or soccer :pac: )
