Is it just me or does anyone else think that some van drivers are the most obnoxious, agressive drivers in the country. Whenever I see someone who skips a queue in traffic; someone who tailgates or inappropriately overtakes another car, it's usually a ford transit or a hi-ace van. I know they have jobs to do but that doesn't give them a right to act like gobsh1tes on the road.

I never said I was, but I'm sure as hell not guilty of doing the things I pointed out above.

Some van drivers will use their size to bully their way through traffic. Same with truck drivers, and pretty much anyone driving anything that isn't a car.

    It's to be expected.

As for the other misc problems (tailgating, overtaking) the van driver doing that, would be likely to also drive like that in a car.

EDIT: I don't drive a van by the way.

I rented a van once to move houses.
Was driving down the quays, and the back of the cabin was blanked out.
So I only had the side mirrors to go on.
Twas not easy, huge blindspots. So I give them a little bit of latitude in lane changes.

But it's usually taxi drivers lane changing, or 4x4 / SUV tail gating that are the main culprits. Van drivers typical sins are undertaking in the bus lane.

Certificate of Competence only proves you can drive like a granny for 30 minutes. IAM test only proves you've notice detail.

What other magic test is there out there?

i for one wouldn't interfere with a hiace or a transit should he use the hard shoulder to my left for example.
the side door could open very fast indeed!!!;)

Van's far too shiny, clean and undented for it to be White Van Man. Imposter.

There's a simple solution to this, drive a van yourself :) I've driven the work Hiace a few times and they're really nice to you on the roads when they see a 'comrade' :)

I drive a white van and I try to give way to other drivers when I can. Other van drivers are very accommodating! Apart from the blind spots from the rear I prefer driving a van to driving the family car.

Was waiting at the top of the queue at the blanchardstown roundabout in the middle lane on the way home from work, i see the white van man pull up beside me in the lane that goes down onto the M50 southbound. No indicators on tells me that this plank is gonna gun it straight on and force me to brake and force his way in.

Lights turn green and lo and behold the guy sticks his arm out the window signalling that he wanted in.... cheeky bollox had the nerve to tailgate and flash me after i kept going and wouldnt let him skip an entire lane of traffic. See van drivers at this every day and have no problem letting people in but when they are being ridiculously cheeky like this i have no sympathy as we are all trying to get home.
