Parked in Rathmines last night and some pikey unscrewed the radio antenna from my 2007 VW Golf :(

Anyone have any suggestions for best way to replace this - anywhere in Dublin I can just walk in an get a replacement? Want to get the exact one so matches the black holder on the roof - or maybe get a shorter one if available?

    Cheers in advance.

At the risk of stating the obvious, any main VW dealer is surely your best bet ?

Mine came off while on a motorway! (Alfas  :D), got a new one (not OEM, but I rather it, shorter) on ebay for about a fiver delivered

True - just a bit nervous of approaching a main dealer without bending over and grabbing my ankles, they'd probably quote me €50 for the damn thing

Just wondered was there any websites or places in Dub I could pick up an OEM one, a replacement for the original or a shorter stubby one?

I don't think they'd fleece you for something like this. I'd guess about 20-25 quid would cover it, even at a main stealers!

I've owned 2 VW Golfs and I've superglued both antennas on.

Does it hurt to ask the price for the dealer? I mean you shelled out at least €14k for the car. Even if it is €50 it's small in comparison (my antenna for a 3 series of similar style was €35).

    Failing that:

as suggested above by previous poster.

That's a great idea thanks - will do that when I replace it!

Quite a lot of motor factors will stock the antenna mast. What you are looking for is a 'beesting' aerial mast. But be careful as some motor factors only supply it as a kit - mast, mounting and wiring.

How's reception without the antenna? I forgot to put mine back on after a carwash for a few days and didn't notice any difference - this was on a focus.

Problem with superglue is that you can't take it off if you use auto car washes.

Just in case. Make sure you dont go to an automatic carwash with your aerial the way it is. It could permanently damage the aerial, fitting and surrounding metal if it was bent now that you've glued it.

Yeah thanks - no worries though I'd never use an automatic car wash, always wash by hand :)
