When coaching kids the shot put how should you handle the issue of kids being left handed? (I presume same query/reply would apply to javelin etc)?

Tie their left hand behind their back, that'll teach 'em :pac:

Mr bongo (1) in a group situation just make it understood to any lefties that they will need to swap left/right around when general coaching is being given and (2) in the one-on-one situation you just need to get your own head around the opposite way of doing things when instructing the thrower.

And, for coach observation, you need to come around to the thrower's left hand side to see what the left foot/hip/arm is doing.

No easy answer, but it's all good fun.

My coaches always taught me how to do things with my right hand anyway and ignored my left. I was called awkward for being left handed.

Resulting in my right hand being much stronger when I began playing basketball in secondary school and me then being able to improve my left handed play with ease due to being left handed and all and I became a nifty two handed player. :pac:

Being left-handed should not be the problem. As a coach you should be able to deal with either. What if you were left-handed and all the athletes right-handed? Why not get all the athletes to alternate between right and left hand? Some day they might have an injury to their dominant hand but would still be able to throw from the other hand.
