My mate is thinking of going. He can't get any reply from the Thai embassy. Does he need a visa? If so, how far in advance should he apply? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Im going in 2 weeks myself. You DO NOT require a VISA at all unless you plan on staying more than 60 days in the country or plan on doing business.

Irish Passport holders do not require Visas. Google gives confusing results because not all country have the ability to enter without a Visa.

    This is not quite correct.

If you show up in thailand without a visa, you will be issued a 29 day visa which can be extended by 10 days at an immigration post. You can else extend the visa yourself by going in and out of another country (by 29 days if you fly or by 15 if you cross a land border). They say you must have proof of an onward flight to be issued the 29 day visa but word on the street is that they rarely check.

The visa you get from an embassy is 60 days and €40.

Sean_K is right, any stay longer than 29 days and you will need a visa (or 10 day extension) Any stay less than 30 days and your fine, you dont need a visa

How does one avail of this?

I just applied for my visa as normal. I was in a hurry to get it though so I just sent the €40 anyway.

They returned my passport AND the €40.

I doubt they'll update their website to inform pople of this though.

The offer continues until June 4th.

You wouldn't happen to know if it applies to the double or triple visas as well would you?

It's not supposed to but some embassies are giving double/triple entry visas for free (vientianne in laos) while others are now refusing to give anything other than a free single entry (phnon penh in cambodia.)

    Worth a try.

    did you read the thread?

you can extend the free 29 day visa by a further 29 days by doing a visa run, flying in and out of another country. Much easier to get the 60 day visa in advance

Sorry I didn't make myself very clear. I am planning on flying from K.L to Phuket and hanging around the islands for approx 6 weeks can I just get 60 day visa/extension on one of the islands or should I organise this before I leave K.L? As an above poster says google says different things so am unsure of the process.

If you're in KL at the moment just get a 60 day tourist visa there. Otherwise the maximum amount of time you'd be allowed stay in Thailand would be 39 days (29 + 10).

You can't get a visa when in Thailand.

Cheers for that, won't be in K.L until mid April and will only be there for 3 days does it take longer then that to sort? Is it possible to sort visa before leaving Ireland? And is 60 days the maximum you can get?

Right, your original post made me think that you were in KL at the moment.

You can get your visa from the Thai Consulate in Ireland. A single visa will give you 60 days which can be extended by a further 30 without having to leave the country.

Apologies for confusion, still in Ireland. Do you know how long it takes to get one? I'll get onto it tomorrow. Cheers:o

You get your 60 day tourist visa here in Ireland. Should take you about 5 days at the most.

When in Thailand and if you want to stay more than 60 days you can go to an immigration office and extend it by a further 30 days for about €40.
