I'm looking for a well recommended partition software (a name in particular)
I've googled and looked at the list at the top (stickey) and i can't find it
It ran on windows and had a name like partition magic (except not it since it wasn't a symantic product)
    anyone any ideas?

I think it is partition magic you are looking for. I think symantec bought out the company that made it.

There is also Paragon's Partition Manager and Acronis's Disk Director. Both are excellent.

There is also a free tool which is Parted Magic which I have used without any issues.

PartionMagic is the one You've heard of, they don't call it partion tragic for nothing. AC is right, since Symantec purchased the application in 2003, there has not been a new release, and Symantec has stated that it has no plans on releasing a new version as they have Norton Ghost

Gparted is good and trustworthy, make sure You run ccleaner and defrag first if its Windows partions You're resizing

Anything that Symantec buys always turned to crap. Powerquest's Drive Image was excellent before Symantec got their grubby hands on it.

I have used partition manager before and found it very good. Didn't use it much mind.
