I'm thinking 40 inches LCD or plasma kind of thing. Anyone using monitors that big and finding it good or bad?

Was using a 32" LCD for a while. It was nice but it only ran at 1600 x 1200 so I lost out on a lot of desktop space from my old 2x19" setup. Now ive got 2x23" monitors running at 1920x1080 each which I find great!

    Snap, using the same setup

It's also possible to have more than 2 - just make sure you buy a video card with the same GPU (the slot type doesn't matter)

I'm running 3 (2 for the DAW and one off to the side with a spectrum analyzer on)

    All works a treat :)

I only ask because I'm about to completely change my recording set up. My living room is now about to start doubling as my main studio space and my big old CTR TV is great quality but takes up a lot of real estate so I though maybe I'd chuck a cribs size flat screen up on the wall and double up on it as TV/ DAW monitor. I might just give it a pop.

I recently got 2x22" LG monitors @ €200 each. They are great Pro-Tools looks tiny on them!

Now thats giving me all kinds of crazy ideas! I still have my two 19" monitors so I'm now considering setting up a 4 screen system! Imagine the possibilities!

I'm thinking of picking up a single 24" in the next few weeks.
Whenever I use a pair of screens the mouse getting lost occasionally bothers me more than having to tab between mix and edit.

My only concern about that type of setup would be the location of the TV in relation to your desk, monitors and computer etc.. Up on the wall is great for movies, but if sitting down at a desk i wouldnt want to be continually looking up at the extra TV/DAW monitor while working.. Side by Side is great, but then you are probably too close to the large screen if its there, and close up it wouldn't look to great anyway.

In short, I'm not so sure it would work that well ergonomically :(

What brand are you using? i am using 2X19" Crt monitors at mo, while the resolution is great they take up a lot of space on my real desktop.

I was thinking the very same thing. Although I have been in studios that have had quite a large monitor up relatively high. I like what Paul & Joe did in The Nutshed, they kept the monitors away from the console and off to the side so when you're leaning forward for that concentrated listen over the desk you're eyes aren't being called into the mix action. I didn't get into this game to make music that looks nice :-) I was also gifted a rather fancy -and damn expensive- wall mount device that lets you pull your flat screen into many different positions and angles which could prove useful. Or not as the case may be.

Can anyone lend me a 42 inch LCD for a month to see how I feel about it?

2x22" DVI and one Samsung 32" LCD.
I got the 32" for video playback when mixing film/TV but when not mixing video it is my plugins screen. Works great.
I have always been a fan of arrange and mixer on separate screens rather than one big screen.

Most of my customers go for 2 x 22 inch.

In Protools 2 mons are a natural solution for PTs two pages.
In Logic it's perhaps along the horizontal axis most info is needed so the proportions of a single monitor are less well suited.

Also the effective 'eyespace' of a pair of desktop 22s could well be more than a 40 inch further away.

Remember the Father Ted and the 'small, far away' sketch?

single 26 inch from 4.5 feet away

42 would be fcking ginormous .

I just tried it. Looked great, I'm going to do it. Might not go as big as 40 inches though, 32 might be enough for me.

I just won the auction for a super 42 incher. I'll report what it's like with Logic when I get it up and running *rubs hands excitedly*
