Have you tried motionbased.com (I presume you use the pretty weak Garmin Connect already).
Sportstracks is a downloadable win32 application and is very good. website

Thanks KC, you're right I use garmin connect and its not great, style over function I think, and I don't understand the connection between motionbased and garmin connect. I've never heard of sporttracks so I'm going to give that a go. I'm primarily mac but I have a windows xp machine for emergencies, i wonder if that will run a win32 application? After conn I'm want to start training by HR which I have totally ignored till now. But the more I read, the more I can see it's vital.

If you're running a mac, Ascent software by Montebello (?) is about the best software out there on any platform. Costs 40e to buy, but money well spend imo.

Yes, it will. I'm guessing Krusty is a programmer, which is why he uses obscure terms like that. :D

I reckon as a programmer he sensed I use a mac. The win32 deliberately included to confuse me :-) i'm just happy open source wasn't mentioned.
I looked at Motionbase again and I'll use that over garminconnect, and I'll download the ascent trial version tonight. I know it's e40, but luckily, running has escaped our household budget cuts todate.

    :D Not quite, but related!

I've been playing around with SportsTracks, and it's got some really useful features (and some useless but fascinating features!):
    • Tracking equipment (like shoe mileage)
    • Athlete profile (Weight Tracking, HR trends)
    • Activity Reports (Miles per day of week! Ave. Speed by weekday!)
    • Distance trends / Speed trends
    • Route distributions
    • etc.

Only thing for me with the forerunner and accurate use of the HRM and all that jazz is I have absolutely no idea what weight I am. Oh well, I've had a great weekend playing with my new watch. :D

    Thanks sean_d for this recommendation.

I downloaded the Ascent software on trial and then bought it (€40). Its a big step above both the garmin activity centre and garmin connect in terms of usability and tools. I can't compare it to similar software for a pc as i have never used them - but if you are looking to get more from your forerunner and you use a mac, its well worth it.
