    Hi all,

Car battery went dead yesterday, I've a 1.4 leter car and my Bro has a 1.3 I tried to pump my car off his but it would work, It should as if it was so close to turning over but it wouldnt,, Doesnt matter how long i left them connected,

Do i need a car with a bigger engine to get it started?

Have your brothers car started when your trying. Also are you sure your battery is dead and it's not the starter motor that's gone, do your lights work?

Are you using cheap jump leads by any chance???

    Try this:

Connect up the two cars and make sure that the connections are good. Leave your brothers car running for 30 minutes to charge up your battery, without trying to start your own car.

If your car won't start after 30 minutes, I'd be fairly sure the problem is the jump leads. I called out to a mate the other day and he had been fannying around for half the day with a cheap pair of LIDL jump leads trying to get the car started. When I got down to him I threw them in the bin and used my own set and the car started first go!

    ya his car was started.

See what happened was, I left my girlfriend in the car while i ran into the shop. She was watching a DVD with the engine off. So when i got back and tried to start it it didnt start,

I got the car services about 2 months ago, So it has all new plugs etc, But i'm not sure about the starter motor.

I'll check the lights and report back

The light are very low but they are on,

I just bought the leads from Halford yesterday when the car went dead, They only cost €15 tho.

When I connected the car to my bro's I only left it for about 5-10 min, When connected there was diffenetly a difference..
He's not here now so i cant try the 30 min thing,

5-10 minutes isn't enough. You need to try it for at least 30 minutes I think. If you had a better set of jump leads, the car should start straight away off another car. Also, make sure your other half isn't watching the DVD when your trying to charge your car! Turn your own ignition off so nothing is being used.

Don't buy that yolk from argos whatever ye do.
How old is the battery you have? I'd could be totally goosed.
You'd buy a new battery cheaper than that charger and it will last a lot longer than a re-charged old battery.
