Ripping DVDs (using a Macbook Pro) to play on an Ipod Touch?

    Hi guys,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place or whatever... it's my first post.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there's anyone who could advise me on converting my DVDs to Quicktime files so I can play them in their entirety on my Ipod Touch?

I know (using MactheRipper, VLC and MPEG Streamclip) how to convert a DVD to 20 or 30 minute fragments, but not how to create one single file. I've read online that I need something called Handbrake - does anyone know anything about this? Is it simply a case of using this by itself or do I need additional applications?

I'm also concerned that I may download a malicious programme.

Cheers guys - any info at all would be great :)

    H

+1 for handbrake also, however if you want to leave the machine doing a few at a time, I find using mac the ripper to do a full extraction of the whole disc to a folder is great, then add the folders as the source to handbrake and hit add to queue instead of start, start your queue when you done the first and then just keep hitting add. Mac the ripper rips a full dvd in about half an hour. If you spend the evening every so often getting mac the ripper to do a new dvd you can have handbrake work through the night..

    Tips**
I generally let Mac the ripper do what it does while I am using the computer but to save CPU usage and not slow it down to much, just before I head off to bed I add all the DVD's I've ripped to handbrake's queue and let it go

When choosing the folder in handbrake, if there is an audio and video folder, choose the video, both audio and video will be taken.

    Regards

For anyone interested in adding subtitles to a movie and then converting it for watching on iPod or iPhone, you can use Submerge or Roadtrip (both from same developer). I use Submerge and it works great.

Most subtitles can be found at subscene.com

Cheers man. I've used MactheRipper a few times but it always seems to break the film into about 3 fragements of 20-30 mins. Is there a way around this?

Just wondering if anyone has come across any problems using handbrake with copyright?

I'm trying to burn a few episodes of a TV show from the DVD but when I select the source it freezes for a seconds and then crashes. From looking through google it seems to be a copyright issue.

I'm not really sure to be honest... a mate of a mate introduced me to the programme and told me not to ever expect getting a film in its entirety. But you reckon it is possible then? That's grand, I'll just Google next time I want to use the app.
