To be fair I could tell the glitter eyeliner would be rubbish, even with higher end brands they're not great! Dunno about any of the rest of it, I just tried the glitter on my hand.

a really good cheapo brand of make up is Colour Essence, it's great!! now I haven't used their foundation or anything and I usually use benefit but for eyeshadows, nail varnish and the likes it's brilliant.

I'm quite sure that they get some of their makeup from the same suppliers as Barry M. There are so many products they sell that are the exact same and come in the exact same colours as Barry M products only with the Opia name on them. The neon eyeliners, the chunky pencils, the coloured mascaras, the loose eyeshadow.
I haven't bought any of the Opia products but I have swatched a few on the back of my hand and my skin was fine.

I didn't know Penneys had their own make up now....I'd be wary of their foundation or concealers but I wear any kind of eyeshadow, powder and blusher so might give it a look.

I dunno if I could bring myself to use it. I'm such a make-up snob! :D

Might have a look next time I'm in.

Their cheek stain (exact dupe for Benefit's one) and their liquid hightlighter is brilliant, and the eyeliners stay on really well, can't complain about them at all! Lipglosses and lipliners/lipsticks are also really nice, handy to chuck into a bag if you're not too worried about them! Love Penneys make up :)

I didn't know about the cheek stain either!
    Must check that out.

Me, Me, Me do a good one too - it's about 5/6 euro!
    Much cheaper than Benetint.
Although, Benetint is the original, and most likely, best!

I actually reccommend pennies makeup....for the price its no worse than your expensive brands...their eyeliner is actually quiet good and I usually use Urban Decay glitter eyeliner...

Colour essence in Dunnes Stores is brill too.At €2 a pop I use their jet black eyeliner that is long lasting and mst admit I love it!!!I would never use their foundations though...

My sister uses Miss Sport which has everything under €3.99 as far as I can recall.

cheap and cheery alternatives in this econmic climate.

I am practically married to Clinique and Stila but I use Miss Sporty nail varnish, it's less than €3 and it goes ages without chipping, I love it.

Yup, I agree. Ran out of the dream matte mousse foundation that maybelline does, couldn't get the colour anywhere. Said I'd try the mousse colour essence one from Dunnes, it's fab, just as good as maybelline, and half the price.

Dunno about opia, although I did get a body brush from penneys and all the bristles keep falling out, the bf thought I had a hairy chest going on

I got a quad yesterday in Penneys, and I must say its doing really well. I got the one with purple and black, and tis pretty heavily pigmented. I've used it with my cheapass Catrice primer and eyeliner I got in Dunnes for about €3 each and it has lasted really well. Only thing I'll say is that it's a li'l flaky, but don't load up the brush and you'll be fine. I'll definitely be buying more when I can.

sounds like a trip to penneys is in order now!

Which of the brands mentioned would have the best soft black eyeliner pencil? I seem to buy so many hard rubbish ones! I want something very smudgy!

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 6,817 ✭✭✭jenizzle

The smudgiest (if thats even a word!) I've ever used is the fat Barry M one. Best high-end one I've used is Urban Decay 24/7, which just melts into smudgy awesomeness.
