Paying speeding fines in a post office

What is the procedure for paying speeding fines in a post office?
I assume you need to show your licence and the notice.
Also do they give you back the notice?

Or are you better off simply sending them a cheque?

    Thanks

You would be better sending off a cheque unless you want your local post office staff to know that you were caught speeding.

Best not to give the local curtain twitchers something to gossip about when they are collecting their pensions.

I paid a fine for an illegal left turn at the PO, I'd imagine it's roughly the same. They kept the notice (they stamped it with something so I presume they have to send it off to whoever) and gave me a receipt. IIRC they took the number off my license too.

    Advice DONT,

I paid a penalty points summons at a post office and about two months later got the summons. I had to go chasing up receipts etc and bring them down to the Garda barracks, about a week before court it was quashed. Not worth the hassle, in future I would pay them directly.

Why didn't you just keep the printed receipt the post office gave you with all the details on it?

I've paid 2 fines at the post office no hassles, the give you a receipt that tells you exactly what the receipt is for so hold on to that.
