:confused:Hi I'm in the market for a new tv. After reading the many threads i think i've decided on a plasma - either a 40" or 42". My question is how much more expensive are plasmas energy wise - is it enough that i should actually go with LCD?
Also is LG a good brand? There seems to be lots of LG's in powercity etc and they are cheaper. Or what brand should i be looking at - i guess i'm going to spend close to a €1000 - hopefully more like the €900 mark though

Panasonic make the best plasmas (since Pioneer have stopped). I just bought one and it is stunning. They have a new range out which I think are supposed to be more energy efficient than previous models.

If your heating system is thermostatically controlled, the heat given off by a plasma ought to reduce the fuel consumed by your CH system so for most of the year, they should hardly cost much more to run than an LCD.

    +1

Panasonic Plasma's are superb. You soon forget that they consume more energy than an equivalent LCD tv in the same way you forget the 1.6L car you own consumes more energy than the 1.4L car you used to. Walk more if it bothers you that much. Panasonic Plasma FTW!

I bought mine in Richersounds. Cheapest by a country mile and exceptional customer service. A dedicated forum & special delivery rates for boards.ie

    Eh ? Pioneer KURO

I've got a Pioneer KURO Plasma. News to me if they've stopped manufacturing them.

ya, pioneer are [have?] pulled out of the tv biz iirc.

a quick google should get you a news story.

the kuro is apparently awesome but serious cash.

panny are the best value for cash i think. Happy with mine :)

Hi Guy's looking for some quick advice here, not sure if this is really the right thread but hopefully someone can help me.

Im in the market for a new Plasma, I've decided that a Panny is the way to go. I was content to wait for the new G10 model which will be arriving in the next 2-3 weeks in Richersounds but now I've come across a really good offer.
I can get a 46"PZ81B delivered for £1064(Samsyerman), have it by Friday(possibly wednesday). Considering I probably wont be able to get a 46" for such a low price on the new models im seriously considering placing an order.

Does anyone have the above TV and would they recommend waiting or just taking the plunge as the differences in new sets might be neglible?
If the new displays weren't NeoPDP I think my mind would already be made up....

    help will be greatly appreciated.

I recently got the 50" and it is quite superb. That is a good price.

It is a hard decision. The G10 should have 33% better contrast, better intelligent frame creation (I have read the current version does not live up to the claims.) and v-sound. Apart from a few other tweaks those seem to be the main improvements.

For me, it would really come down to whether the G10 is going to be comparably priced or a good bit more.

I came across this which you might find of some interest:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/plasma-televisions/954822-tx-p46g10-th-46pz81b.html

someone asking the same question. A price was quoted:

    TX-P46G10 - Freesat model - £1399 end March

I would get the the PZ. As I said, the picture quality on mine is superb. The G10 might have deeper blacks but the overall picture quality is not going to be 33% better. Put another way, I have not felt the blacks on mine 'need' to be any deeper

Thanks for the reply, thats kinda what I was thinking anyway, I mean the picture on the PZ81 is supposed to be superb and it can 100% decode the MPEG4 which i'm not sure the g10 can, the only thing was the reduced power consumption and as you say the claimed 33% improvement in contrast(not likely). Well there should be some early reviews for the G10 this week or early next so unless Sams yer man tell me they won't have stock next week I might just wait a couple more days before ordering.

    Cheers!

I bought a 42" LG plasma. Lasted 14 months then died. Two friends of mine had the same make and model and both packed up in the same way. Avoid LG! I now own a 40" Sony Bravia and have no complaints.
