Will narrowing pcv hose affect crankcase ventilation?

I want to replace an oil catch tank with a bowl fuel filter, as its smaller and will be easier to fit under my hood. The filter outlet/inlets appear much smaller than the stock pcv hoses which are 18mm. Will the resulting narrowing of the pcv hose affect the ventilation of the crankcase. Put another way will say a 5mm hose allow the crankcase to ventilate?
