The pain involved

I've got an appointment next week to see the dentist in Ongar Meridian clinic. I think I'll need one filling on a molar but you never know, I might need more. I don't think so. It will be my first dental visit in 2 years.

I was talking to a friend of mine and he told me that his dentist has never actually physically hurt him during a filling or an extraction. I found this incredible because for me a filling or extraction were always hugely painful processes.

I'm expecting more of the same next week but I don't mind. My question is, is there pain involved for you when you get a filling done? If not, which dentist do you go to??

maybe i just have highly sensitive nerves there or I've had bad dentists in the past? I don't have a fear of them but i have to say, when that drill starts, my blood pressure goes up slightly!!

I am THE worst patient in the world..have gotten so wound up with one dentist that i punched him in the face once when he hurt me, but i'm talking over 10 years ago...Now im in the middle of some pretty serious dental work and the dentist im seeing is so good i actually look forward to seeing him:o

You should under no circumstances have any pain during a filling, maybe some discomfort, but i think thats just from the sound of the drill more than anything! I know its probably no help to you but my Dentist is in Thurles but honestly, you should have no pain during a filling. Ive had 2 and have had 2 wisdom and 3 other extractions done in order to be fitted for braces..

Good luck to you pet, i know how your feeling!:D

The only time I've ever had a painfree filling was when I had a filling done on a tooth which had root canal. ie: there is no nerve in that tooth.

Have to go in the morning. I've chipped one molar, and the other one gets sore when I drink anything cold. Hopefully both can be filled. Last molar on each side, can't afford to lose either or I'd be in serious bother. :(

Fillings, I have had my fair share, curse my sweet tooth!!
Never felt any pain really. Just the brief pinch with the injection at the start. After that it just feels a bit uncomfortable and unpleasant.
    More pressure than anything.

Extractions, had two done a couple of years ago for my braces.
Again, no pain really. The doc rubbed some kind of cooling/numbing jel on my gums first, so the injections weren't that bad.
Waited about 10 minutes until I had Cowen lips, and she started working away. I could feel her tugging at the teeth, and on the second tooth, I could kind of feel it break, and feel the...sharper bits sticking in a bit, but it didn't hurt, it pinched a tiny bit, but over all it just felt...wierd.

Wouldn't like to experience it again.

HAHA this post made me laugh out loud, you PUNCHED the dentist!? :D:D:D.

I've had 5 fillings done and 5 extractions in my adult life so far and each one was awfully painful. When my friend told me that his were painless, I was stunned. maybe it won't be so bad next week! But I'm still gonna expect the worst!

But I'm still gonna expect the worst!

I expect the worst (i haven't been disappointed yet - except with the tooth that has no nerve!), so anything better is a bonus.

I'd really like to listen to my iPod or something while he's drilling. Something to concentrate on to take away the pain. I think it'd be ideal.
