I had a quatro lnb (edison 2db) installed recently. but the output on the Vertical Low was poor.. all other outputs were very high.

I was told by the installer taht it is usual for vert Low to be lower.. is this true ??

Now, having said that the readings were particularly low and he suggested that it may be a problem with the LNB.

    any thoughts

(I have already ordered a replacement lnb)

Depends on what satellite you are pointing at and without knowing the exact levels its very difficult to say.

    Agreed.
A slight skew is all it may have needed if aligned at Astra 28.2.
However if it was fitted to a standard 60cm oval this might explain the loss.
A bit more info op please...:pac:

    More info:

    78cm triax, Astra 28.
    Output on
Vert High, Hor High, Hor Low, were all coming in, in the 90's

the Vert low was coming in at 26

this is when he tested at the LNB (Edison 2db Quattro)

also using a 'emp professional 9x16' multiswitch

What are your actual fault symptoms?

What are your actual fault symptoms?

Pixelation, only on 'Vertical Low' Channels ie ITV3+1

When the guy was installing it, he put a meter on the LNB, and told me that he was getting very high readings on all of the LNB outputs (90 to 96), but that VL was only coming in at 26 to 33.

On the freesat box, the little signal strength meter is at the max on most of the channels, but almost zero on others

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and if you are seeing pixellation, then the LNBF is borked. Ring your installer and get him to replace it.

    Think he already has :)

i supplied the hardware.. So i can't blame the installer.
    I've another lnb ordered.
I'll install it myself.. It shouldn't be too difficult,
I'll label the cables before i start, and it's only a matter of popping it off and popping on the new one.

    (2pm skew and all that)

    Should be no problem

That can be a symptom of a dented or distorted dish. Can you see it with light reflecting off it and tell if there's a crease or dent? It can also be a symptom of incorrect skew. And it can be a symptom of interference from another signal bouncing off a wall, zinc roof etc.

Dish looked fine, it was a new one just outta the box, no distortion visible.
i hope its the LNB, as that will be the easiest solution at the moment. Moving the dish will be a pain

    here's a few pic's
I'm posting / uploading thru my phone, so hopefully it works.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can tell me if the wall is the problem.

I'd say it's highly unlikely that the wall is reflecting any unwanted signals, although if I'd been installing it, I'd have put it on the other side of the halogen lamp, just to be certain. And further away from the aerial because it's a bit close and could affect the aerial reception.

Anyway, in short, I'd certainly try a different LNB.

i was gonna have a yagi, but i'm getting perfect analogue and DTT. And that antenna is neater being against the wall.

thanks for everyone's input. I'll update again when i get around to changing the LNB

your much better with the colour king, and nice neat job hidden away behind the dish, if it does the job then cool!
