ICB check from potential employer?

I am being shortlisted for a job in financial services, and the employer wants a credit vetting check from the ICB., I don't feel this kind of information is relevant. Has anyone else had to do this? I am not sure if this is legal. Incidentally the same employer is looking for garda vetting check.

please note; the job is in financial services- non custodian.

No one except yourself or a bank with a signed agreement can get your icb record.

I have never heard of an employer in Ireland asking for it.

I can see what they want a check.

Say you have large cc debits or other debits.
Might not reflect well on your money management abilities

My understanding is the ICB check basically shows default/late payment of bills. As the previous poster said it shows money management skills.

Is there not interview questions that could be asked that would reveal a persons attitude to credit or loans or money? Documented proof in this case is a bit excessive.

ICB checks throw back a lot more than just your defaulted payments. It reads like the history of your residences since birth, balances on accounts/loans, any missed payments and any CC applications (they used not have CC balances on the ICB not sure if they do now).

Also your employer would have to be signed up with the ICB to get at this info and that is not something I could see any employer being unless they are a bank.

If I remember right they must send info to get info from the ICB. I.E. if the organisation do not submit info about fianacial transactions you have with them to the ICB the ICB wont send out info. Been years since I had any dealings with them but I think this was the case at the time (heck back then Ulster Bank were not part of the ICB)

Pretty normal in the financial sector. I had this done when I worked in a bank and I was in the I.T. section with no handling of money involved.

It's just to see if you have any court judgements against you regarding debts etc.

Any finance sector employer who doesn't look for this level of documentation should not be in the business.

OP, if you have a problem with the employer asking for it, them I'm wondering if you really are suitable to work in financial services.

@Kayos; I didn't realize there is so much detail involved in the ICB check. The employer is getting me to apply for my own check, then submitting it for review to them.

Court judgments would be available from th courts system; the level of detail involved in these checks concern me (privacy of cc balances etc). I will get the check then consider my options.

In fairness; that post is complete bollox.

Would you care to explain why?

I requested a personal credit check just out of interest last week and was disappointed how little was in it. There was my current and previous address, 2 loans and my mortgage listed on it, detailing that payments had been received on time for recent periods. No CC application info, and strangely no credit rating, which appears only if someone ever requested it, which amazingly it would therefore seem my mortgage lender never did!!?? If you've nothing to hide let them have it, request one yourself first maybe...it is invasive, but if you want the job.....

@eden_my_ass; thats crazy if your lender didn't check your ICB. I assume they are a member (listed on website) as the market for lenders here is pretty small. I have a feeling mine will be quite unremarkable also.

Because I have never been asked for it and neither have anyone else I know. Do you work in recruitment? Maybe you should think about it; judging by your insightful career advice and helpfulness.

I would be very surprised if they weren't members, however my banking has always been with a sister company, makes me a small bit suspicious that they shared records rather than requested officially....anyway not an issue cause I got the mortgage :)
