    Hi,

I have a 1993 Range Rover 2.5 TDi, I never carry passengers in the back so the seats and seat belts have been removed, I do not want to pay another €500 for 6 months tax, how do I go about getting the tax book changed from Private to Commercial tax?

    Thanks

ask the horses mouth, i.e. your local VRT office (Carrick or Sligo)

    Hi Camperman,

I've seen this been done, but you first have to ensure the load area of the range rover is setup for use as a commerical.
Most Car van types use a false floor to make a level flooring and also this covers up the old rear seating area and old holes for seat belts.
they may also ask you to get the seat belt holes welded up so you can't use them again or try to put in seats in he future.
also i believe you'll need a bulkhead to isolate the front compartment from the rear for safety.
Now I could be wrong on some points, so don't shoot me.
But if you bring the car down to the VRT office and ask there advise(pray you get someon that knows there stuff) you should be ok.
I agree about the high tax. I have 3 land rovers at home, one is an 1980 109" and since it's not 30 years old yet, Tax and insurance and NCT is a killer.

So she sit's in my mothers untill her Birthday next Jan.

    Good luck,

    Robbie

    I've done exactly this, well mine was a 92 not a 93 :)

once the car has irish plates its no longer anything to do with the VRT people, you need to talk to the local motor tax office.

you need to weld up the seatbelt mounts and weld in a flat floor over the rear footwell, then you get it weighed by a DOE approved weighbridge, then DOEd, then take it to the gardai to have it inspected and sign a commercial use declaration and then to the tax office for another quick inspection and then hand over all your paperwork and you get back a cheap tax disc.

    quite easy to do.

And then 3 months later you'll discover you're becoming a dad and have to buy a passenger jeep anyway :)
