There was a murmur that people are thinking about doing a long spin this weekend / paddys. What the details? Still on ?

I'm planning to get out nearly every day this weekend as I haven't been on the bike much at all since my little crash. There's a race on in Batterstown on Patrick's Day, so I'd say a few people might be doing that.

No doubt you have done this before......How long would this be from your place, Dundrum, Glencree, Sally Gap, Blessington, Slieve Mann, Shay Elliot, Laragh, Enniskerry, Dundrum, Home?

I'm up for a long long ride as long as we leave early ---- 8:30ish from Dundrum. If its too early I might try this by myself. Its just I don't know the roads at all.........

I am on for a decent spin,
I want to be back in Dublin for the Ireland rugby game though.

@El Tonto what time is race on Tuesday?

22km from Dundrum -- If I need to do that many kms I don't want to start at 10 and finish at 5. Actually 7 hours is probably abit optimistic if we are in a big group.

Long long cycles and rugby do not mix.

I think I'd be around 175km but I only drew the map of google maps.

I'm the one in front, wondering whether the red line is infinite or part of a very thin St George's Cross.

I had to leave D15 at 4am to beat Caroline to that line.

8:30/9 am is good with me. I like Scott's proposed route, 200km might be a bit long.

Anyway, I'm in on saturday regardless of final route.

Join the club, although with me it's self inflicted. I really need a long one to blow the cobwebs out. You racin' Tuesday?

I think that would be the nail in the coffin. Planning to head out with JeffOnTour to see the new PlanetX on Tuesday. I'm just going to do the Swords league this year and get some experience there before doing any bigger races.

As for stopping: this will reduce the chance of getting back in time for ruggery action.

Kick-off is 5pm. Plenty of time for a long spin if we leave early and don't dawdle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭scottreynolds

    the full Scott spin

Its not my spin -- Its suggested already I just bought it up again. Besides it can't be my spin -- I've never done that route.

Don't worry, loud and enthusiastic shouting of "allez, allez" with much continental style arm waving and gesturing will help keep up the pace.

At least be imaginitive with your excuses. Both El Tonto and I got in early with ours so anything we do will be seen as a positive.

May now be able to do Saturday.
Would folks be on for Slieve Maan/Shay Elliot, or is the plan do Sally and Wicklow Gaps?

I'm amenable if everyone else is. It's a long haul down though, so we'd need to think carefully about the route and when we kick off.

I'm tentatively on for a spin Sat, though Shay Elliott/Slieve Man might be pushing it. Also, if we're going to be out for that long, we'll have to stop and eat at some point, no?

Yes -- We can pick apples from the side of the road. There's bound to be someone selling them. But seriously I don't find stopping for a long period any way helpful. Perhaps we could organise a stop in Laragh and those who don't want to atop can just go on. I'm happy either way.
