    If the government increases the tax bands in April, when is this likely going to come into effect? Straight away?

    Of course.

    As a rule of thumb tax increase come into effect immediately, whereas social welfare and spending increases come into effect some months later.

    Yes, we're 20 billion in the hole for this year, we'll need to see the tax increases and spending cuts asap if we're going to close that.

    Though most likely it'll be a temporary levy for this year with the tax band officially going up next year (for legal purposes it's simpler I believe). We'll end up paying the same tax either way.
