I only have my bike a week and already I can feel a slight buckle in the rear wheel.

My commute is not long but the roads are Cat, something I didn't notice on my old bike. My route there is loads of road works and I even changed my route..

Can it be fixed( Can I do it) or should I go to the Store where I bought it?

    Thanks..

it can be fixed depending on how bad it is

usually you look for where the buckle is , ie lift the back up and spin the wheel slowly and when u see it grab the wheel , and u usually tighten up the spokes on the opposite side of the buckle a little each time and then spin again etc

Drop it in to a shop - they'll probably charge you under a fiver to fix it if it's just a minor buckle.

Although if it's significant enough that you notice it in the roll of the bike...

If it's a new bike then take it back to the shop ASAP - big problem with factory built wheels that sometimes you get loose spokes. Same thing happened to me a year ago. If you let it go and don't make the shop aware that there's a problem then there's no record of it if with them if it gets worse.

If the bike is that new, there should be no charge at all - most shops will make adjustments for you gratis while a new bike is bedding in.

Mucho Grasis Gentlemen.. The Chap in the shop is a pretty Nice fellow although I did spend a few bob in his shop:D

Just out of interest, How long would it normally take to get a buckle during normal wear and tear on them size rims.(.GIANT IOU 333)

Because if you get a buckle after a week you'd spend more time fixing it than on it..

Depends on how you hard you are on the bike, but you can ride a well-built set of wheels pretty much until the rims fall apart and not have a day's bother with them. Conversely, a badly built wheel will come out of true in a stiff breeze.

The stock wheels on most bikes are factory-built wheels which often are not very evenly tensioned - generally after a bit of tuning up they should be grand as long as you don't go ploughing through potholes etc.

It's impossible to say really - there's too many variables:

what sort of roads you're riding on, how careful you are to avoid potholes, how heavy you are, the quality of the wheel & build etc. etc.

The roads are pretty bad, and As mentioned my route has been recently turned upside down from road works( Walkinstown into city centre)

I'm very careful to avoid potholes but the roads I travel on are pretty bad.

    I'm about 86 kgs and 5 10.

I've a Giant SCR1 so same wheels I think. My back wheel has had no end of problems with loose spokes, popped nipples, and last weekend a snapped spoke. Most of it I'll put down to being over 100kg + pannier bags when I started on it along with the huge unavoidable potholes on one of the roads I cycle home on.

I got the wheel trued by the guy in Duffy Cycles in Santry on Monday and 100k later it is still fine so looks like whatever he did has sorted it out.

Are FCR wheels the same as the SCR, i.e. built on Alex 500 rims? I had these on my SCR and indeed I now have them on my felt. I remember not being impressed with them on the Giant, but they have been fine on the felt.

Maybe Giant just do a bad job at building the wheels (or whoever builds them for them). I'd say if you get them trued in a shop they should be fine.

Went back to the Shop(Cyclesuperstore) today and they Sorted it..Well 99.999% of it is out now,.

They said just to come back in around a month and they'll do a few more tunings which is fair enough:cool:

I had alex rims on my trek and they kept going out of true all the time. As it was a new bike somebody suggesting tightening each spoke by a quarter of a turn, had no problems since. Changed recently to Shimano wh6500, had the same problem and hopefully [touch wood] this will work too.
