    Hi,

Noticed while out at the airport at the weekend that alot of S Class's and the like where picking up suits and walking to the chauffeur / limo parking area and Taxi signs were being pulled from car boots as they headed off with their clients - is this loop-hole still open?

Not a loophole as such, but maybe a little muddied, as long as it's registered as a taxi, easy way to tell, does it have a yellow circular sticker on the front and rear screens, if it does ( and assuming it's not forged,) then it's a taxi, if it's a blue or silver disc then you can do us all a favour and note the registration and report them to the Gards and Taxi Regulator, otherwise it's probably one of them 06/07/08 S320s that people say they see as taxis but never manage to hail. The other thing of course from a customer perspective is that if they aren't using the meter then the customer and driver need to fill out a waiver form for not calculating the fare on the meter, means that a "taxi" can then charge you €60 to go to city as against the metered fare of €20-25.

Not sure which stickers it had just sure that the guy was being Chauffeur'd as the back door was opened for him and the driver was suited & booted and carrying a card with a company name on it that he was obviousily holding up for recognition purposes in arrivals.

So if a taxi company get a call or email from the states to be met at the airport -- is it the same procedure as a chauffeur / limo hire company? ie; same parking spot allocated by the airport? or do Chauffeur / Limo comapanies have different privalages at the airport?

I mean if I was a suit from the states and got here and an S Class collected me and I was stuck in traffic I'd be pi**ed so guess it makes sense to have the Taxi sign in the boot.

Yeah, definitely. Drive up the bus lanes. I presume a car on account with a pre-agreed price, invoice, paperwork etc would constitute a waiver.

Do you have to have the taxi sign on the roof to use bus lanes, are limos not allowed to use them also?

Wouldn't have thought so as there is a sample form on the TRs site and must be signed bythe driver and passenger before commencement of fare.....

Should all fares be priced on the meter/ can the meter be turned off?
When a journey is pre-booked, customers may waive their right to have a particular journey charged on the meter. In this situation both the driver and the passenger must sign a prior written (waiver) agreement.

Saw a good one this morning driving to work.At the junction of Collins Avenue
coming from the M1 a guy in a Merc got out, opened his boot and took
out a taxi sign and put it on the roof of the car.Now one might say he was a taxi driver but he certainly didn't look like one as he was wearing a three piece suit and he was only taking the taxi sign out as soon as he got to the bus lanes. It's fairly obvious the guy is exploiting a loophole in the system.

Its a loophole, let him exploit it. No ones stopping anyone else (ie you) from exploiting it either...

If a taxi company gets an email from a guy in the states and say's 'Hello Dublin Taxi company can you collect me at the airport" ..

.. where does the Taxi park? With the Limos? Do the other Taxi's in the que not object to a Taxi flying up to the Airport to collect a fare flying in?
