Dropped into McDonald Cycles on Wexford St the other day and noticed that they are selling new fixies for 400e. Guy said frames are imported from Italy & therre built by some guy in Finglas. They look ok. Just wondering if anyone has seen them?

Excuse my ignorance but would this be good or bad. Basicly am looking to pick up a fixie for my daily run in & out of work. Dont really want to spend much on it and dont have the time to build myself. These seem fairly light weight, can be set to free-wheel if needed. Comes with f & b breaks and frame is drilled for mudguards. Just dont want too end up with a POS on my hands that will be more trouble then its worth!

e400 for a single speed built in a guys house in finglas sounds abit, mad to be honest.

the frames aint "cervelo" by anychance, seen a few rip offs about.

No, but they often have brakes. :pac:

OP, any chance you can post a pic? From your description sounds like they may have a flip-flop hub.

I was only messing - sorry! Those are the names of well known Irish-Italian chipper dynasties, some of whom hail from the Finglas/Ballymun area.

No idea what the bikes would be like. Best give one a shot, I'd say.

At the bottom, near the junction with Kevin St. I haven't been in to them in quite a while but they used to be my local bike shop a few years back and I thought they were good guys. No idea what this new fixie is like.

I've always found the guys in there helpful whenever I've had questions (used to be a LBS when in college).... if one of our kit sponsors wants to buy one, I'll be glad to review it... :D

No reason why fixies cant have breaks fitted - to be road legal I think they have too!

Kona Paddywagons are closer to 600e I think. Is there one for sale second hand?

Just talked to the guy in McDonalds - told me the bikes are steel frame. He said the make is velo (not sure if spelt right). There are imported from Italy by a crowd in Finglas and built there. There is an aluminium version with a carbon fork available but would cost about an extra 150e. Said the frames have a 10 year warranty.

your right no reason at all:), but it kinda defeats the purpose, well in my own opinion it does, im sure sombody here will disagree.

every bike needs a poxy bell and reflectors to be "road legal" too?, so make sure they have these fitted:p

i think there is a kona for sale on this forum?? cheap too.
Honestly id rather spend a extra e200 and get a solid bike that is made by a manufacturer with a good reputation and a excellent warranty e.g 10 year guarantee on aluminium on a bike at e600.
Than by a "guy" in finglas.:D

Are you sure he didnt say cervelo??:o if he did or they are, run away, they are just crap frames with a cervelo badge on them.

@kona- as I am sure you are aware you cannot emergency stop a fixie quickly without a front brake.

I've heard of a good bike builder out in Finglas. A few guys I spoke to have had their bikes built out there. I can't remember the name. Perhaps it is the same chap.

i reckon that would be Derek of Humphries cycles in Finglas, he built my last couple of bikes, are these fixies still available in Mc Donal cycles ?

I think the frame brand is "Veloce" as they sell the frames out in the shop in finglas, most winter trainers ....

i know the guy who owns humphries cycles (i think that's the name) in finglas goes to italy every few months for frames. i went up around christmas and he had a heap of paganinis and other really nice italian steel frames. i would guess that it's him

EDIT: biker joe beat me to it

I've seen those Paganinis they were going in Penny Farthing up the road for around €600 if it's the same bike. Flippy floppy hub, brakes etc.
