    In terms of loft insulation is this stuff any good ? It seems to have decent performance and is good value. Not too sure about its fire resistance properties though....

    The other product I was considering was Moy Plus Isover. This looks like a very good product but is much dearer than the B&Q stuff...

    Any thoughts ?

    my opinion would be, no relevant certification = do not use.

    i say 'relevant' because i find no specific mention of UKAS in the irish building regulations. However, that is not to say it isnt acceptable.

    their UKAS certification states that the product has been tested, however it makes no conclusion as to the results of these test.

    I would hold the opinion, if it cannot be backed up by specific certification as mentions in the building regulations, then it must be ignored.

    also its thermal conductivity figure isnt very good at 0.0425

    this might clear things up a bit....

    note these lines:
    Loft insulation
    - the building physical behaviour of roof structures incorporating the insulation at ceiling level must be
    analyzed by a specialist;

    - special attention should be given to the air tightness of the ceiling, being the most important measure
    to avoid excessive condensation in the space above the insulation; in certain cases a vapour barrier
    could be considered;

    Yes, that link does give cause for concern. The other thing that would concern me is its behaviour in the event of a fire, from the description 10-10 gave in relation to the back yard test he done would cause me concern about the sort of obnoxious smoke it would give off.... which is what usually kills people in the event of a fire.....

    I guess circa 400mm of Moy is my best bet...
