We have sparrowhawks at home on parents farm! They nest up high in the trees, have very piercing shriek. You'd hear them fields away. They are so beautiful.
Ive often seen them whilst Im out driving too. They're high flyers and they can hover in the sky for ages looking down at prey. My parents fields would be full of feathers cos theyd be killing pigeons especially and other small birds.

    Hi Banrion,

What you described there sounds more like kestrals then sparrowhawks. Kestrels are the ones that you see hovering above their prey. Sparrowhawks are more ambush specialists.

    Regards

I agree with you for years I (and many others) though the hovering bird was a sparrowhawk until I learned differently here..

    thanks fellow boardies...

Hmm, I have never seen or heard of that bird and I am pretty familiar with bird species. I studied them for a while in college about 2 years. Well, good luck!
