I've never been to this before despite saying I would for years. Should I bring a bag full of cash in anticipation of buying something nice for around €4k or are things usually in a different price range? Is it wise to bring small children, I assume parking is readily available.

Is the Terenure College show in July also for sales?

I'm not too fond of this show - they charge big bucks to enter a car!

There is a 'for sale' section in Terenure, iirc it costs extra to put your car in this area of the show too! You will still see many show cars in regular sections with for sale stickers......

I've been to several (as a seller and spectator) They are good shows if you take them for what they are a sales show.

You will find cars in all price ranges, and the usual overpriced cars but also some very nice machines.

I agree that it is quite expensive to enter your car in the sale but then I've sold three cars through these shows so for me it has been worth it

Kids are no problem, but bare in mind that some owners won't want sticky fingers on their freshly polished paint :D

The last one had around 175 cars on sale

Good luck with your search if you go

The Car Sales are an excellent place to look for Classics. In the past I think sellers had a dose of SSIA fever and asked silly prices. In the current climate I think prices could favour the buyer.

Bring cash, make an offer, you never know !

Terenure is on July 5th and "For Sale" entries are charged at €20/car and are only allowed in the for sale section and not anywhere else.

BTW I have no affiliation with either, just that i recieved the Terenure info yesterday and was sent the following too.......

I was at the Terenure one about two/three years ago and I was shocked at the prices people were hoping to get for their cars! I do expect a slight markup but some of the people were taking the mick as they say. Still though it makes for some good viewing.

I have found at these shows/sales that the prices are not inline with the market by 20-30% but more disturbing is not the actual asking price but the poor quality offered for the money. And mundane British stuff always over priced, why?

A lot of it yes, but certainly not all of it. We can't all afford Mercs!!
Not that I'd particularly want one mind. ;)

It's not a question of afford as many classic Merc's are not as expensive to purchase as some other makes.

Also, the build quality is just far better which should help keeping running costs down. When I see the average grown man purchasing a Jag I genuinely feel sorry for him as he could have got far better quality and less of the hassels with a Merc.

I, my family and friends have had British cars old & new and to be honest there was always a better equivalent continental model available which was just superior everytime.

Horses for courses but just some are winners.

I would agree, I think Merc's have come down a bit in price in the last year or so, But i do think the Irish market is still overpriced no matter what car you are going for. As for these shows i think you are going to pay a bit over the odds for your marque anyway.

Nothing like a good old sweeping statement, the results can be very educational and susprising. It does get people's blood flowing and that has to be positive.

On the sublect of over priced classics and British ones in particular, I've just been informated by a friend he come across a Austin 1100 with 44k mls, understood to be excellent up for €5500!! What' s that all about?

Now each to their own and I'd be the first to agree that if one wanted that particular car maybe it's not too expensive but you need to dying for it and their can't be many who are.
