So post here if you have any applications you would like to see.

Ya never know somebody on here might be a developer without ideas. You could get the application you want, while they make thousands off your idea. :) win win.

*before anyone points it out yes I am obviously looking for ideas. I am thinking of trying to learn how to program for the device but have never been an idea man.

I read a good few books on the iphone and what would be absolutely awesome would be like a last.fm, but for books.

See what other people are reading. Get books recommended based on what you've already read, it could give a sample few pages etc.
And something to keep track of all the books you've read, and you can star them to recommend them to other people.

    I want this.

Something along the lines of Google Latitude, except.....

You fire up an application, it shoots off your location via SMS (important for interoperability, not everyone has an iPhone. No, seriously), at the other end, the app extracts the info from the SMS and shows the other person on a map where you are.

There is a JVM for the iPhone, isn't there?

not that i know of, i've been totally out of the loop on iphone apps for a good 3-4 months.

    /me investigates.

I too am interested in learning to code for the iPhone, just need to get my hands on some form of Mac. For free naturally.

Maybe a sticky for "Apps Wanted"? Useful too if someone requests an app which already exists.

    AFAIK only on jailbroken ones.

    EDIT: if at all.

    Yup, there's one on Cydia.

Check out sbsettings in Cydia, great little app. You can swipe the top of the screen from within any app and a little popup will appear with buttons for enabling/disabling various features like bluetooth, 3g, wi-fi, location aware, edge, etc plus it has a few other neat features as well.

I'd love to see an app that means you can use the iPhone to store and read .pdfs .docs.xls' etc. A simple one that when you hook up to your computer it appears as an external drive where you can just drag and drop files into.

I honestly think if this was done it'd be a top seller. There are a few out there but they all require unlocked phones and Wifi for file transfer which is not of much use to some people.

I tried TVU player for a while but most of the streaming links didn't work. I would love to see a reliable streaming TV app, but that would require licencing etc i would presume from the channels. a p2p streaming app? maybe that would be illegal.

An Irish News App would be nice, RTE etc

Ulster bank/Other Irish bank App, i use my US bank app all the time. Having my Ulster bank online access as an app would be great. You guys are missing out not having BOI/AIB/Ulster bank apps.

ok, this might sound lame but I use my ipod touch as my alarm and I'd love if I could choose a song from my music collection to wake up to instead of their alarm tones. So if you knew you were going to have a really *****y day you could wake up to "don't worry be happy" or if you had a day where you had something important on and needed to do your best you could have "eye of the tiger".

    The possibilties are endless!

Not really an application as such, but I'd love if Apple made it that any downloads over iTune (iPhone updates as an example) would not have to restart if interrupted by loss of connection. There is nothing as frustrating as downloading a 246.4MB update only to lose connection at the 230MB mark and then have to restart the whole fucking thing again:mad::mad::mad:

I'd like to see the ability to put on apps that i didn't buy in the app store. Make it more like iTunes - you can rip your own, record your own or buy music from apple.

I see two avenues you can go to accomplish getting apps not bought off the store on your iPhone.

    1. Jailbreak it and use the Cydia app store.
    2. Write your own apps and use the paid developer tools to put them on your phone. No need to submit them to the app store.

They're adding this in the 3.0 software update. You can already do it with email.

You can create your own ringtone of the song you want and use it as an alarm tone: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=439

Thanks. Another very nice poster pmed me suggesting another application called iringer. I converted a song and it added ringtones to my itunes. Unfortuntely it didn't sync up to my ipod (I have an ipod touch not an iphone). There just isn't anywhere on the ipod touch for ringtones to go. When I go in to clock and edit my alarm it does not add the ringtones to the list of aound options available.

    boo-urns - I really wanted that!

    i'd like to see:

    profiles.

i.e. i'm in a meeting i want no ring, no vibrate etc.

or whatever and the ability to create your own profiles and customise existing ones.

i've a really good idea for an application if there were different profiles to choose from

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 775 ✭✭✭CivilEx

I would agree. What about the ability to set peak and off peak times on Exchange Mail? (finding it hard not to check and see who has e-mailed me at 1.30am:D)

what about airplane mode as a quick fix?

that is a good idea, but i was more thinking about an app that would allow you to interact with the maps API and depending on your location you could have a pre defined profile, or user defined one.

ie. the user is at home, turns on the home profile no mail data is pushed until they move out of that area, of course the user could customise what options they wanted etc.

I'd like something like Pandora or Last.fm that is actually available in Ireland - a radio station that recommends songs based on preferences. I used to use Pandora on my PC before they ran into legal difficulties and it was great :(

I have Last FM on my Iphone. ;)

It's quite simple actually - create a new, iTunes account in the UK store, with a different e-mail address to what you already user (you will need a UK postcode, but you won't need a UK credit card). Then download it as normal to your iPhone. You can then switch back to your Irish account in iTunes.

awesome must try this tonight, the cydia version of scrobbler is just not as good as the official app.

Unreal! Did you make up a random address, or did you just add an English postcode at the end?

I don't remember the details, but I remember I did Google Manchester to get a postcode. I did make up the address, though. I think the postcode is what they check.

Why Manchester, I have no idea. :)

    Hi Tom,

I have my iPhone signed into itunes automatically at the moment and can't seem to be able to log out on the phone. I need to log out to log in under my new 'UK' address to download last.fm. Do you know how I can logout? I have tried true iTunes on my pc but that still doesn't logout the iPhone iTunes.

    TIA

Sorry Tom, I now have last.fm on my iPhone but when I try to play any station it just says 'there is not enough content available to play this station'.

    Do you have any suggestions?

'Fraid not. It seems to be happening to all of us now. There's a thread around here somewhere discussing it.

    Such a shame.

Not really an app i'd like to see, more an improvement i want to see.

I'd love for Dublin to be included in the Urbanspoon app. Or for someone to make an irish version using the same principal.

    You checked out Stanza yet?

I didn't think much of Stanza, but it did have a good interface with a good load of books for free, and some great premium ones. It could have been better, but definitely the best book app on the store right now.

I'd love to see a message system, for iPod/iPhone users only, and only accessable through the device.
Its a big idea, and if it did come about, would probably be shipped already on the system.

sorry if this has been covered but is there a media player app for the i phone

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 395 ✭✭AntoSRFC

Does any know of an app were you can just stream the audio off you tube videos. So to save battery when you just want to hear the song? I suppose simple solution is just to download the song. But for comedy aswell.

Also if the was an app were you could add you photos as a wall paper behind the springboard.

Feel free to start a thread of your own.

Vodafone users will know that when you log in to the website you can get your voicemail on-line played to you in whatever order you like...aka Visual Voicemail, albeit on PC/Mac?

Wouldn't it be an awful kick in the you know what if there was an App to allow Vodafone users access "Visual Voicemail" when O2 cannot offer the service :D
