OK dbar suggested this in another thread so post pics of your vintage shaving gear here.

I'll start with my 1949 Gillette Super Speed. Came with original box and blade dispenser. Bought on ebay USA. Cost (incl delivery) 33 euro

    http://www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/gil_ser2.htm

Interesting info on vintage gear and help identifying what's what.

Another link I just found on B&B linking to high quality pictures of most Gillette razors - also shows boxes, instructions, etc.

waraf, very nice coloured blade dispenser. Not seen it that colour before. Are those instructions lying on the bottom?

Yep you're spot on. They tell you to shave in a downward/diagonal motion which I have been too scared to try yet but someday when I've a bit more experience I'll give it a shot.

Yes, you got it. The Vision 2000 was my first safety razor and was not a wise move. IT's very big and is difficult to adjust. I had to send the first one back as it would not align correctly - a common problem - it's over engineered.

The Futur was my second razor, I thought it would be cool for travel. It's difficult to hold on to when wet and it's a bit agressive for my liking.

BOth razors are nice to have but I use them occasionally only. Stick with a HD or Progress and the others can fill out your collection.

Quick question, I sterilised 3 Super Speeds last night. Boiling water and Milton were my weapons of choice - the person I bought from already
    had them cleaned and polished.

The milton has dulled the chrome a tad and I noticed the Americans
mentioning MAAS or MAS polish to restore the shine on old gear.

Has anyone any recommendations for products available in Ireland to
polish up old gear? Brasso or similar?

If you get them nice and shiny then you only need to rinse them in hot water before use. Metal polish is what you need now, try a motor factors for one.

Or for something completely different try leaving the razors in Coca Cola for an hur or so and then polish.

Thanks MediaTank, I know I went for overkill with the Milton and sterilising!

Looks like I might be popping into Halfords or similar at lunch.
I have to get the shine back.. :D

I'd seen people mention the Coke for the gold-plated razors.

I used the Superspeed last night with a Red personna, more comfortable than the yellow gillette was.

I used Autosol metal polish on an old gillette super speed and it really worked well.

A very quick pic with phone camera.

Two Super Speeds (one a TV), Fatboy and Slim adjustable.

I still haven't had a chance to polish them since I dipped them in Milton
when I got them, hope to get the metal polish this week and will try and
    get some proper pictures then.

I've always wanted a (Schick) Krona. I have just payed $27 for the following. I'm happy with that price, considering the original box and leaflet, blades are there, along with, by the looks of it, a mint razor head.

Pictures of the actual Krona purchased.

    amalgamkrona.th.jpg amalgamkrona2.th.jpg

    Lovely item.

Hopefully the postman will not try to 'make it fit' through the letterbox like some other items this week. :(
