a laughing stock thats a bit harsh , it takes guts and courage for anyone to get into a ring and fight , although he may not quite polished for tv and media he seems like a decent bloke and I have not doubt not matter what happens on the night of the fight he will try his best win or lose

I am sure his family and friends are proud of him , hes not a criminal , wife beater , drug dealer or bank robber hes an irish boxer fighting for a chance to be world boxing champion

I am a not a big fan of bernard dunne style of boxing , but I will be supporting him and I soo hope he wins for himself and his family and indeed his boxing fans

    cheers sarah:o

One loss and he is a laughing stock:rolleyes: he has come back, won two on the spin. Also, he is respected enough to be given plenty of air time on TV and always seems to be a very confident, intelligent person. Plus the guy sells out arenas, not because he is a comedian but a very good boxer

If he beats Cordoba, he will shut the critics for a while !

Never heard anybody call him a laughing stock , he's one of the best Irish p4p boxers we got.
I'll be cheerin him on in 2 weeks time.

No way is he a laughing stock and I think all things considered he was matched fairly decently since coming to Ireland.

In his run up to the ebu title fight he had decent opposition for the level he was at himself. All of which he was supposed to win and the odd guy with no chance but thats no different to even some of the finest boxera in the world. He beat a top contender in Pickering and had been calling Hunter out anyay until he vacated. His defences for the ebu belt were at the very least the same standard as Munroes opposition if not better.
He decided to face Kiko even though there was no point, he could have vacated and fought a lesser dangerous more known fighter to get a world title fight.

In his first comeback fight most of us were happy with Machado as an opponent. Light puncher, past his peak but been around the block.
In july he was set ot face some jiminez guy. instead marchiano came in as a replacement just 6 weeks after his own world title fight at bantam, and not too lonf before that took abner mares (a top tier bantam contender) the distance.

Then we had faccio who was a replacement for garcia. Faccio was a good replacement all things considered and Dunne cant be blamed for some guys pulling out.

There was no point going for the european scene as that was all tied up. So he was decently matched towards A title fight with a very good fighter in cordoba.

Bernard isnt a laughing stock, in fact he is competing at a higher level than any of the irish boxers at the minute and that says something as its a good bunch.

Bernard is a laughing stock to all our Hatton-esque casual followers; you know, the ones who only really follow football, not boxing, and think his last fight was against Martinez.

Now to anyone who follows boxing - and we are the ones on this forum, in fairness, it is clear he is not.

Doesn't change the perception. Until he beats Martinez again, a lot of people who know nothing will believe he is pathetic.

Says him with his 20 odd boxing posts under his belt, cop on you idiot.

This whole thread is ridicilous and disengenious to the regular boxing posters who have constructive things to post on here. Dont get me wrong the more posting on this forum the better but having blow ins dragging down the tone with their first few posts will turn this forum into a sham.

6,000 - 7,000 people paid good money to watch dunne fight in the point, it is expected a further 9,000 will pay good money to go and watch this fight. These numbers will be backed up around 500,000 who will watch on the box and you stride in here with a ridicilous comment about him being a laughing stock, hes no fcuking comedian and im sure making a nice few quid so whos the one laughing??? Its armchair goons like you two spouting tripe that are the laughing stock. I am a self proclaimed dunne supporter but i would be posting the same if this was headlined Lee, Duddy, McCloskey etc etc etc.

Needs a mod in here to lock down this crap IMO

alan, calm down for feck sake. Why are you so aggressive here
If you read ah sure's post, it is clear he is defending your beloved Bernard

I agree with a lot of what you are saying Alan. Although I am not Bernards biggest fan, this thread is a f**king joke imo, and the best thing we can all do is ignore it.

Everyone knows I do not rate Dunne at all as a pro; but he's not a laughing stock. He's nice guy, interesting guy and doing his best with what he has.

I don't think he necessarily needed to beat Kiko; he just needs a win over a rated fighter in the world; that's all I was ever asking for before we started
calling him a good or very good PRO boxer.

His chance is coming and I think this thread is a little negative at this point
in time. We should simply be supporting him no matter what we think of his
    PRO credentials.

I will leave the thread open for a bit; but like I said, Dunne needs positive thoughts and views NOW. We can discuss the bout after and say what we feel then

    Let's get behind him.

The reason why the thread is a joke is the heading that is a false generalisation, as bren stated, some people think he's overrated-but he is certanly not thought of as a joke or laughing stock by anyone..

This thread has no positives and is only of benefit to trolls who want to have a go at a popular irish sportsman..

I'm quite upset that Alan Celtic's is bigger than mine.

Look, Dunne is a quality boxer, around a top-10 world fighter. The only point being made is the plebs I sometimes talk to slag him ALL the time and it always goes back to one night at the Point.

Laughing stock BY THE PUBLIC is a bit strong but a heap of people hardly rate him at all and took serious pleasure from his knockout. I hope he sticks it down their throats this time and I'm sure his performance will go some way to doing that.

And how sad must you be to use the phrase 'blow-ins'?

He is not a top ten world fighter. That's fact and he has never been. Look, we all agree that this thread is negative, but I don't think it also needs fallacies in it:)

    Closed for now gang!

I hope a great performance at the Point and he may well be. Ah sure, we'll see eh? Top 15?

I think Bernard's highest EVER rating by any one of the
four major orgs' was 11. I could be wrong here

    I'm actually getting educated here...

If he wins this fight then he surely will be a top 10 fighter, no fallacy

    Indeed john!!
