Certified factor for thermal bridging

Can someone explain what the following means which I see in a BER document:

"Certified factor for thermal bridging .08"

Now I undertsand the concept of thermal bridging, it is the factor that I do not fully understand.

How can one meet such a requirement? I know dry lining helps but what sort of drylining?

    Who certifies this?

    Thanks for any answers,
    Mac

That is an addition you make to the whole building calculated heat loss

You get the average u value accross the whole building - and calculate the heat loss

You then add to that calculated heat loss additional heat losses associated with all the thermal bridging by either

    1. The sum of all thermal bridges individually calculated
    2. or - more simply - this factor

You are only allowed to apply this simplified method 2 if you pay attention to these details ( in this case cavity wall - there are other details for different wall types ) - certified by your signing off professional

Sorry - was not sure where exactly to post, I knew of the BER forum but knew also that it was of issue to a non BER people.

Sinner - thanks for your post. I assume if I take considerable care in minimising thermal bridging I am in the clear?

Reasonable care - well detailed guidance is available here

Look at the part starting Acceptable Construction Details

Download the document which relates to your wall type
