PA Mixing Desk tripping the mains

Hey guys, I was hoping if anyone could help me figure out what could be wrong with my bands mixing desk.

When ever we turn it on it trips the mains and I really don't know why.
Its not the power because the power amp, and the combined amps don't trip it, Although the power amp causes the lights to flicker on and off when its turned on.

I had a look to see if the plug lead was nibbled by mice (cause we know they are around) or whatever but we switched the lead with a few and it happened every time.

It's defo an internal problem with the mixing desk I reckon but I haven't a clue why.

    Anyone any ideas?

EDIT:Ok my mate just brought it home to try it in his house to see if it tripped the switch there and the cooling fans "exploded".
I can't describe it anymore as I'm no where near him.

    It's a Behringer europower pmx 5000

Any help will be greatly apreciated. =/

This a good advertisement for why not to buy Behringer for serious use/abuse.

OP, either get it fixed (if you trust it) or bin it and buy a Powermate. Mixing desks do not trip mains breakers unless something is seriously wrong.

The fuses went because there's a short in your mixing desk. The poor old fans were obviously the "live" side of wherever the short is.
If the fans blew they probably caused even more internal damage.
By the time you replace the fans, fix whatever extra damage they caused and found and repaired whatever wa causing the short in the first you'd have bought a new mixer, depending on the model I suppose.
Put it down as a lesson learned; nowadays mains MCBs dont trip because there is a power problem or faulty MCB, but because whatever you just plugged in is faulty. Plugging it in elsewhere wont make the fault go away. Having said that, the mains fuse in the mixer should have blown before the mains tripped or maybe I'm reading your post wrong?

So the desk was tripping the light? fantastic!:pac:

Messing aside I'd have to agree with the above that behringer gear is not built to be used a lot

Aye it was second hand also so it had been used alot as is. It has been put down as lesson learned tbh I'm just curious as to what the problem was. Also I thought that the mixers fuse would have blown aswell if the mains tripped. That bit really ocnfused me.

Thanks for all the replies guys. This is just a serious pain in the balls.

Can you have a look and see what's in the fuse holder? I say what because nothing would suprise me!!
It wouldn't be unheard of for someone, who has gear that blow fuses regularily, to put in a big fuse or tin foil etc. to "fix" the problem and sell the gear.

from using much of their crap...sorry gear in various rehearsals around town i've come to the conclusion that Beringer is the audio equivalent of KVI :D

I can't have a look now as I'm in a different county ha But I did have a look in when it happened first and the fuse wasnt blown or anything, which I found wierd. I didn't check if it was the right fuse or not though. Anyway everything has been working fine for a couple of months now, it was very out of the blue.

We know the person that sold it to us well so it shouldn't be a problem contacting him about it.

Contact him for what - if its a private sale, you're screwed, caveat emptor and all that.

PS I've been using a behringer bass amp for 4 years, and a pmp5000 mixing desk for the past 2 without an iota of trouble. I'll be having a good look into the desk though when I get it back after the next gig though, nothing worse than a PA dying at a gig.

(Other than me dying of course... :) )
