A while ago there was a thread asking what advice would you give your children, well I decided to make a thread on what have you learned from your parents?

    Advice from my dad:
-If you get punched don't give them the satisfaction of letting them see you cry(Given to me by my dad when I was 7 or 8)
-Analyise the situation first before running into something, don't just run head first into things
-If someone hits you, hit them back
-Don't be a sheep like everyone else, do your own thing(Although I haven't really changed for that matter)
    -Treat people with respect

    Advice from my Mam
    -Always believe in yourself
-Theres nothing you can't do if you put your mind to it(Except for maybe Brain Surgery)
    -Always be good to people
-Don't be stingy with your money, you'll just turn into your dad(Although it looks like bad advice given my current prediciment)

I have basically done the opposite that they have ever done and ever advised me to do.

Mainly because, although after all this time they still love each other. Its not that simple though.

    They.are.boring.as.fück.

Im nothing like my other siblings, who are all just as steady and focused as my parents were / are.

Finding out there was a mix up at the hospital the day I was born, at this stage, would not shock any of us.

I happen to think my real parents are Side-show-Bob and Rosemary West.

Advice from my dad (and funny enough from job): If someone take you on, don't equally take them on at the same level. Wipe their ass off the planet times ten. Don't piss a round with equal actions. Up the comeback and make it permanent.

Advice from my mam: You only come into and go out of this world with one thing - a name.
Your given one at the beginning and you make the other by the end. Make it a good one!

My dads advice came to mine more than once while I was coaching a sports team.
"You should never try to teach a pig to sing as it wastes your time and annoys the pig"

Taught a better way on the first point I quoted.

    Second the second point.

My Dad taught me to never speak badly of anybody. I didn't listen. Voice your opinion, but do it constructively.

To be a gentleman on all occasions. Didn't listen.

But reaching the ripe old age of 34, I am slowly seeing what he meant. Dignity and respect.

How a Guard should act, he is retired 20 years.

    Keep people on their toes.

She is 80. Independent, had her own business in the 50's, drove before dad did, was way more independent than Dad.

Still old fashioned too. I've taught her loads in the last 10 years.

She taught me loads, probably why I go for independent, strong willed women.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

My parents taught me that -

    Honesty is easier than lies.
You get back what you give out, maybe not immediately, but sometime.
People will generally treat you with the same courtesy that you treat them.
    Manners are free.
    Sit straight, and stand tall.
Set goals and work til you achieve them.
Everybody, for nearly everything, deserves a second chance.
You'll be better at expressing yourself if you don't take shortcuts, so don't swear.

    My dad: Use the Force

My mum: With great power comes great responsibility

    Uncle Rambo: Don't push me

Auntie Jim that I shouldn't talk to: I bet you a pound my willy tastes like a lollipop.

I learnt Auntie Jim is a fella and his knob just tastes of knob....and he doesn't pay out on bets.

Dad: "Your mother is the devil"(she's not that bad in all fairness), "Your mother wants me to drop dead, I won't give her the satisfaction".

Mum: "Your father is a prick. I hope he drops dead".

    Both: "Don't get married".
