Looks interesting. I don't know how successful it'll be.

Do you think they'll be buying cars in bulk in order to achieve a continuous discount in the region of 25%ish?
Will they achieve this pricing by solely using their massive purchasing power on normal cars, or will they focus on getting massive discounts by taking the cars the distributor is incentivising - the disadvantaged cars (funny colours, wrong engine sizes, old models etc.)?

    How do trade-ins work?

Would you be comfortable walking into Lidl tomorrow with a bank draft for €18k and handing it to their customer service assistants, or would you expect a certain level of product knowledge?

I realise that generally cost is king, but what other "complications" or concerns (or advantages!) do you see with this business model?

No, it's a great find, I'm interested in what the wisdom of the crowd has to say about this as a car sales tactic!

    :D

Well, if they give a three year money back warranty it sounds very attractive indeed.

I wonder will they be selling stuff like mexican golfs, dacias or whatnot?

Wonder what warranty service will be like? "I'm sorry sir we no longer have that in stock, heres your money back" like it is for electronics?

Remind me to buy one and make sure it breaks at 2 years 11 months :D

    2 Jahre Herstellergarantie

2 years manufacturers warranty (probably last in the queue at your local VW/Opel dealer if anything goes wrong :D)

This is nothing new really, on the LHD contintent you have been able to buy EU re-imports online for years, in different countries from different companies.

You don't always get the exact car you want, there may be differences in equipment to what your local dealer sells but you do get a significantly cheaper price.

All due to the different pre-tax prices and some clever buying of over-capacities.

Lidl isn't even doing this themselves, if you buy from them your contractual partenr is some import business (says so in the small print)

the options list on the German model is a bit poxy:

    Air conditioning € 420th
Front seats height adjustment € 112
    Electric heated mirrors€ 121
    Cruise Control € 195
Split folding rear seat € 147
    Multifunction display € 155

I presume the Lidl one has all this for free? (the spec on the right column?)
