Im really interested in volunteering abroad during the summer, but I dont have any idea what organisation to try and get involved with. Id love to work maybe building houses etc, improving quality of life for people in third world countries. I heard the Niall Mellon trust is great but do you need a trade? Does anyone have any info on volunteering? It would be my first time...if anyone has any information please post here!!:)

    hey anne-marie!

well, theres a few options that I know of for short term volunteering. There is habitat for humanity (http://www.habitatireland.ie/). Where you help build houses for 2 weeks or so. They're going to these places this year:

    # Honduras 7-21 June
    # Zambia 20 June-7 July
    # Ghana 18 July-1 August
    # Kyrgyzstan 1-15 August
    # Mozambique 8-23 August
    # India 8-23 August

However, I have a feeling the closing date for these projects passed a week or so ago. Wouldn't hurt to email them though.

I'm hoping to go away with Camara during the summer (www.camara.ie). They refurb old pcs and send them to 7 sub saharan african countries. They also send out volunteers over the summer to teach teachers basic to advanced computer skills. This is over the month of july. If you need any info about them, pm me!
