'Introduce Yourself?'

So the ES forum has been in a spot of bother lately. There are arguments about people coming here posting abuse, then leaving and/or being banned.. Maybe a way of discouraging this would be to have a 'Introduce Yourself' thread stickied(always sounds so dirty!).

Any new prospective poster would have to introduce themselves in this thread first. I know there is already a thread titled 'Wheres your area of interest?', but the introductions thread would be different, in that everyone must post there before posting in any other threads in the ES forum. This would mean we would all see when someone new comes along, and could welcome them. This would go along way to tearing down peoples misconceptions about this forum and it's members. It would also possibly discourage trolls or make it easier to identify them.

Anyways, what do ye think, yay or nay?:)

    Has to be a Nay.

You can't seriously expect that folk will come in, post their details, wait for a "Hello, welcome" or a "Goodbye." This will perpetuate the perception of cliqueishness (if that's a word).

Have faith in your Mods. They'll pick up the troublemakers and act appropriately.

Don't see a reason not to introduce yourself, it can't do any harm - but I don't think its needed for the reason you say, eroo. Any decent mod will be able to tell the difference between a troll and either members, or people with a genuine interest like myself. People who come in here or indeed to any other forum specifically to cause trouble should be looking at a siteban, to be honest.

I didn't mean to come in here but I Picked up on one of the threads and found it interesting

I am not a member of the ES but I seem to be surrounded by them, I have family members in AGS and in the FS. Four of my closet friends are members, 2 AGS, a FF and a 999 operator.

I have nothing but the deepest respect for my friends and their colleagues, more so because the things they have to see so the general public hopefully will never have too. Over the years there have been a few teary nights when someone has to get something off their chest.

Some of the strories are truly heart breaking, and will always stick in the minds of the people who had to pick up the pieces. My FF mate told me a story that they found a child under a bed to hid from the fire, sadly she lost her life. They all agree that cases resulting in the loss of a child are hardest to come to terms with.

    Sometimes these people amaze me.

The problem we have is that most contact with AGS is negative as in, we were caught doing something we shouldn't have done, minor things like taffic violation. I belive we are more annoyed with ourselves for being caught than the Garda writing the ticket. the odd times I have been caught, I find most Garda direct to the point, this isn't meant to be a casual chat, you broke a law (minor) and this is punisment.

Whenever I am spoken to, I do bear in mind that this Garda has seen first hand the result of speeding and unnecessary killings on our roads, and our ES do have to deal with the aftermath.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks Mickey, but tell your friends they have nothing to be ashamed of!

I lol'd, maybe they're gonna replace the tricolour outside their respective stations with one of these. :)

Back on topic, I think we should take posters at face value. In some circumstances they should be asked to clarify their position and interest in a topic.

Not everyone has my disciplined attitude to staying on topic.

Trolls can be weeded out fairly quickly. If their question is answered, let the Mods close it.
