So, when I got my wii I picked up a load of old gc games as I had totally missed out on the whole nintendo thing. I gave metroid prime a few gos but whilst I liked it I found the control system difficult to get used to and also got stuck on the first level when you have to race to get off the ship.

Finally, gave it another bash at the weekend and made it to the planet and started playing it for real and I love it. :D It's like a cross between Zelda and Turrican (one of my faves from my c64 days) and I can't believe it took me so long to give it a bash again. I also have MP2 and Echoes to get through so I expect march and april to be busy gaming months!

Anyone that has hate the Prime games hated them because they expected it to be a first person shooter like Halo when in fact it's basically zelda in 3rd person with lock on controls and all. I really have a soft spot for Metroid Prime 1. It's one of the best games ever created and renewed my interest in gaming during a patch when I got very disillusioned with them.

I envy you playing these games for the first time, they are excellent.

cheers man, knew you would reply. I also have all the zelda games( except
for Twilight princess) to get through too! :D It's great being able to play them
with a wireless gamecube controller too.

I think they're re-releasing Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on the Wii with wii controls. For anyone who hasn't played through them yet that will be the best bet as I loved the controls on Metroid 3

Also check out Super Metroid on the SNES. One of the greatest games of all time and still playable today. Or if you'd like something more modern, Metroid Zero Mission on the gba was a worthy remake (or the original metroid)

One of the greatest? It's arguably the greatest :)

I had the joy of playing it through for the first time only a few years ago. What an ending!

Prime caused me to doubt the fact that Zelda OOT my favourite game of all time.

Damn you you sexy space armour wearing, rocket launcher for an arm, mute bounty hunter!

I remember the first time I was in a heavy battle in the game and saw Samus' eyes reflected in her visor when a big explosion went off. Gave me serious goosebumps.

Metroid Prime was a great experience, I remember playing it for the first time so clearly. Anyone who hasn't played Super Metroid should download it on the Wii, it's pretty flawless.

Also worthy of note is Metroid 2 on the Gameboy. One of the first games I got hooked on, it was the first really fancy Metroid game.

Metroid Prime, one word review, Awesome, two word review, Really Awesome.

And as a sad sad completist, I will be buying the remake for the Wii, I know this is not a good sign that Nintendo are reheating old games, but the control system in Metroid Prime 3 is so good, I can't wait to see how the original game plays with it.
They are re-releasing Metroid Prime 2 Echoes as well, who knows, I might even be able to finish it this time!

hey, thanks for all the good info. Am currently stuck at the adult sheegoth in the snow/icy part but have only tried it twice so I should be ok. The only critiscism I would have is that the game lacks a system like in Twilight princess where one can transport from area to area without having to traverse the same terrain again and again. It gets a bit wearisome after a while.

Finding it hard to give Killzone 2 a bash when I have this to play.

On a similar note, just came across.

    Do want.

I'd buy that for a dollar..

You know, some guy has the best job in the world thinking up stuff like that, then going out, finding a fiesty blonde and building a supersuit around her.

    Wonder if the Morphball functions?

Of course, there is a case of Toy Story here, you know, look a light, that blinks!

And you'll have the real Metroid nerds complaining that the pic would be better if only it was the Fusion suit, or if Samus had the missile selected, or the Dark matter beam...
