Might be a silly question but do you ever feel stupid or silly for going to a doctor?
Feel as if its all in your head? Well no, its not in my head, its on my legs. Hair loss on my legs. And now a bald patch in my eyebrow. Im not stressing out but it has me worried now.

try to remember that no matter what the complaint the doc has more than likely heard it before.... try not to be nervous.... even if you do try to just go with it cos u will be glad u did, cos it will only keep bothering u otherwise :)

Whats the feel stupid about? You've got something thats concerning you, get it checked out. Nothin to feel silly/stupid about. Best of luck with it.

Thats what the doctor is there for! they get all sorts. if you've had bad experiences try a different doctor. maybe try ask around your friends if they know a particularly nice ones.

i recently found a lovely doctor (in dublin unfortunatly)

just relax and realise that your paying them to provide you with a service, like a lot of other transactions in life.

    good luck!

+1, if you feel your doc is very off-putting I'd recommend trying a new one. The last thing you want is to be avoiding going to the doc when you really need to just because they make you feel uncomfortable.

I'd say doctors are like no other professions for stupid questions.

Like asking an IT-consultant why the cup holder on one's computer is broken.

Or a fat person ordering a supersize meal with a diet coke?

Id rather go to a doctor and look stupid, then leave it and have *random* body part fall off.

There's loads of reasons for losing hair, most commonly alopecia. It's something your doctor will be familiar at and won't think you're silly at all! You're right in wanting to get it checked out, so there's nothing to feel stupid about.

this is only a big deal for you. The doc just knows that you have presented with a medical problem, which they may or may not be able to help with. Just like you'd call a plumber if your tap was leaking, or a sparks if your telly was flickering on and off. Maybe something, maybe nothing but no-one would laugh at you for getting it checked out. The relief will be worth it, either way.

Yes, all the time even when I know I'm very ill. I used to get concerned about wasting his time with something trivial. That changed when I thought I had the flu and didn't go for weeks to him, by the time I went I had a serious chest+throat+ear infection and I ended up on steroids to strenghten my lungs, yes it was extreme and yes I was stupid but I just kept putting it off.
He asked my why I didn't come in sooner and I explained that I didn't feel sick enough and didn't want to waste his time, he said it was a common perception people have, but that everyone knows their own body and in most cases you know when you're ill and you show listen to your body and not second guess yourself.

Go to your doctor, either way it will put your mind at ease.

Thanks for the replys. I have already seen a doctor regarding my legs and they tested for thyroid problems and that came back fine. So im just feeling silly going again. I am, of course going to a doctor but i certainly dont want to be sent out the door, for stress (when im not stressed).

I always feel silly going to the doctor - Im convinced theres some kind of doctors conspiracy in this country where they misdiagnose you then you feel silly going back when the original problem is still there!!! But enough of my paranoia!

Dont feel silly about it, you are paying for a service, if you dont like your doc, get a new one, and be confident that you are doing the right thing getting anything unusual checked out.

I had a sore throat once that I ignored for 3 weeks (had the old 'dont want to bother the doctor for a simple sore throat' thoughts), eventually went after 3 weeks and I kid you not, the doctor jumped right back away from me when she looked down my throat and lifted me out of it for not going sooner - apparently I had such bad strep I was risking organ failure from the amount of poison in my system.

So go - better to annoy the doc for an answer for something relatively simple then wait till a limb drops off or you end up in hospital for ignoring a health risk.
