Are there any summer jobs about this year, or has the recession killed them all off? Im 16 never worked before, and about to send out CV's any hints. Is there anywhere in Cork hiring? I will do any type of work once it pays me. So any hints?

Yes: apply now for a summer job. Seriously. Note you'll be paid under what everyone refers to the minimum wage, as you're under 18 (see here), which works out at €6.06 an hour. This low wage can work to your favour, as you'll be seen as cheap labour, and employed because of such.

Apply for seasonal work if possible. Most of the shops, etc, will usually already have staff. Due to your age, you can work in a pub, but only during the day, and you can't serve people alcohol, as far as I know.

The later you apply, the more unlikely you'll be able to get a job, as the good ones will have dried up. Also keep an eye on the newspapers to ensure that the job you get doesn't go out of business, between now and then.

Oh, and state your location. Someone may be able to tell you a place to check out.

Going to be a tough summer for summer jobs, myself I'm 18 and will be hoping to get a job come the 17th June (leaving leaves on the 15th) but I know it's going to be near impossible. :(

    start applying now.

do a nice 1 page CV

drop it into every shop/cafe/pub/buildersyard near where you live, look presentable when you're doing it, ask to speak to the manager, say you'll take saturday work now if they have it. even if they don't have something regularly say 'here's my number, phone me if you're short of staff any time'.........

talk about how good you are helping your parents do building work/gardening/etc.........
and you're really keen to get work experience and would love to work in x place.

if you can volunteer to run the shop at school, or be on committee of local youth club or something like that makes you look responsible and reliable..... gives you an edge.......

    good luck!
